Bogota - The husband of Ingrid Betancourt, the woman freed after six years as a hostage of leftwing rebels, says the couple may separate after their long years apart. Juan Carlos Lecompte told the daily newspaper "El Tiempo" on Wednesday that he could not exclude "that things are over with Ingrid."

"This happens. I am not just now thinking about this, but it's been on my mind for some time. Our love may have died in the jungle," he was quoted as saying.

In the week since her spectacular liberation from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC,) the Colombian press has dwelled on the restrained greeting Betancourt gave her husband when she arrived in military fatigues at an airport fresh out of her jungle prison.

"I am very happy about her liberation, but I must admit that I had expected something else. I had hoped for a warm embrace, not even a kiss since all the world was watching," Lecompte said. "But there was no such embrace, and I stepped aside."

"Who knows what she heard about me in the jungle, or what people were telling her, for example, about an alleged relationship I was supposed to have had with a Mexican woman," Lecompte said.

5. Rereading what he said, I think he meant something different.

Poor translation is my guess.

It sounds to me like he expected an embrace but no more since the whole world was watching. A reasonable and very human expectation after 6 years of waiting.

I think they both need a great deal of time out of the spotlight before either one knows what they want the future to hold.

BOGOTA, Colombia -- The husband of rescued Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt says their marriage may be over.

In an interview with the Bogota newspaper El Tiempo, Juan Carlos Lecompte acknowledges what many noted when the two reunited in front of TV cameras after last week's rescue.

Betancourt greeted him coldly.

Then she went to France without him, accompanied by her two children from a previous marriage.

Lecompte says in the interview published Wednesday that Betancourt's love for him "could have disappeared" during her six years as a rebel hostage.

He dismisses as gossip published rumors of an affair while Betancourt was captive. Lecompte had worked hard for Betancourt's release.

8. Who knows?? He seems to be younger than her, and

during the documentary shot a few years back, her first husband was absolutely un-done by her capture..and he apparently took fantastic care of the children, and has a great relationship with Ingrid's Mom.. The documentary showed him constantly leaving messages on the radio station that they were allowed to hear, and told her how much he loved her..and the children loved her..and he was unafraid to show his tears..

Who knows why they divorced in the first place.. Maybe Juan carlos was her "rebound" guy, and after 6 years in captivity, she had time to rethink the first marriage.. Maybe she realized that her "first" family was the one she missed the most and wanted back..

the fact that Juan Carlos seems younger, and they were probably apart more years than they were together..maybe the bond is not that strong.

and he spoke harshly about Uribe and his behavior the other day.

It sounds as if he has been the one stirring things up with Sarkozy, putting on pressure, contacting people like Hugo Chavez and maybe Nestor Kirchner in Argentina, etac.

Hope they run that documentary again sometime. I didn't know he was sending her messages. I DID wonder how anyone had learned she had been sick in there! He must have been the one who had the sources.
