'Fat Tony' Scalia on the 2000 Florida recount ruling: "Get over it"
WASHINGTON - Three of the five Supreme Court justices who handed the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000 say they had no choice but to intervene in the Florida recount. Comments from Justice Anthony Kennedy and retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor are in a new book that was published this week. Justice Antonin Scalia made his remarks Tuesday at Iona College in New York.

Scalia, answering questions after a speech, also said that critics of the 5-4 ruling in Bush v. Gore need to move on six years after the electoral drama of December 2000, when it seemed the whole nation hung by a chad awaiting the outcome of the presidential election.

"It's water over the deck — get over it," Scalia said, drawing laughs from his audience. His remarks were reported in the Gannett Co.'s Journal-News.

The court's decision to halt the recount of Florida's disputed election results, thus giving Bush the state's electoral votes, has been heavily criticized as an example of the court overstepping its bounds and, worse, being driven by politics. Rather than let the recount take place and leave state officials and possibly Congress to determine the outcome of the election, the court's five conservative justices decided to intervene.

We'll get over it...when we impeach your sorry ass off the Supreme Court.

2. Yeah, what the hell tony
because of "conservative" intervention, 3,000+ American troops have been killed in Iraq, 50,000 wounded, 100s of thousands of dead civilians strewn throughout the desert and a debt pushing a trillion dollars is just waiting to be paid for by Americans not yet born. All a tribute to you and your kind. No tony, I'm not getting over it, but my rational hate is more deeply ingrained by your latest callousness.

4. Water over the deck -
a surprisingly honest assessment.
Water under the bridge is an event that has passed you by.
Water over the deck is an ongoing crisis, tending toward disaster.

The ship of state is foundering, and you're one of those who scuttled her.

Thanks, Tony.

7. Of course he wants us to get over it - he'd like to see this buried
once and for all, and people with legitimate concerns about his and SCOTUS' actions marginalized and ridiculed. It seems to work, too - the remarks drew laughter in his audience. :eyes:

8. That taunt was widely used by right wingers after the 2000 selection
I use it now when Publicans whine about Democrats taking over Congress.

This helps remind us what a right wing partisan hack 'Quack Quack' Scalia is. Maybe I was naive but all my life I thought the Supreme Court at least did its best to be nonpartisan. Until the 2000 selection, that is. Another belief was that SCOTUS justices were dignified in public. This clown exhibits a total lack of dignity.
