Is Cheney really Mr Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life"?

He's probably old enough.

The below quote, is it Potter to George Bailey, or Cheney to every middle class person in America? (You make the call)

"Look at you. You used to be so cocky. You were going to go out and conquer the world. You once called me "a warped, frustrated, old man!" What are you but a warped, frustrated young man? A miserable little clerk crawling in here on your hands and knees and begging for help. No securities, no stocks, no bonds. Nothin' but a miserable little $500 equity in a life insurance policy."

11. James Stewart
said that when they filmed that scene with Mr Potter, the director had the heat cranked up in the office so it was stifling hot and made him sweat. Made it seem like he was meeting with the devil.

I've got to think that's about what it was like when Scooter was called into Dick's office.

2. Do you think Potter ever shot anybody in the face?
Other than that - the similarities are remarkable.

3. I said that long ago...when he and Edwards were debating
I was at a bar watching it and I said...it is like watching Mr. Potter debate George Bailey...

5. Yes Cheney is Potter
And he is doing just great at turning the U.S. into Potterville.

14. Potterville is an excellent example of what happens
with Robber-Barons and "Privatizers" in charge.

"What, you want affordable housing? Fuck that, We've got plenty of Speakeasy's and Go-Go Bars that your wife and daughters can work in".

7. Didn't George say Potter had a twisted soul? Does Cheney have a soul?
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 12:13 PM by HamdenRice
So no, I don't think Mr. Potter comes close to Lucifer's servant on earth, the tumor of evil, that is Dick Cheney. You have to have a twisted soul -- some kind of soul -- to be Mr. Potter.

8. Mr Potter never shot a guy in the face lol
Mr Potter didn't wear a snorkle coat and hiking boots to a Holocaust memorial service either...but aside from that they have a lot in common!

15. Yes, but if he had shot a guy in the face
he would have made the guy apologize for blocking the buckshot with his cheek. So, I say they are very similar.

12. OMG -- That *is* a Resemblance
However, Potter was at least good at what he did. Everything Cheney does turns to shit.

I don't I've ever seen anyone who had such an air of hard-boiled realism but was so completely incompetent in practice.

13. Rankings
Presidents are regularly ranked from top (Washington, Lincoln) to bottom (Bush, Buchanan, Harding.) I've never seen a ranking of Vice Presidents. Of course, Cheney may be in a class by himself.

17. Good question
I think he'd even rank below Spirow Agnew.

My wife describes him as Blofeld (from the Bond movies), but I think Mr Potter from It's a Wonderful Life is a better fit. ALthough his mouth does kind of resemble Jaws.

18. Potter is a good fit.
But I prefer Burgess Meredith (as the Penguin) myself.

There is voice fits too ("Warrrck, Warrck").
