How is our beloved Helen Thomas doing these days
Is she out of hospital? Love you Helen. Thanks for standing up to all of them.

1. I didn't even know she was ill.
I can be so out of touch, sometimes.

2. Yes she was
She must be recovering because I just saw this, but I'd like confirmation.

Helen Thomas, dean of the White House press corps, has teamed up with editorial cartoonist Chip Bok on "The Great White House Breakout," for release in August (Dial Books, $16.99, ages 6-up). First boy Sam enlists the help of his pet rat and cat to escape his Secret Service nannies and go in search of a Washington, D.C., beyond the White House gates. The trio takes in the sights and has an encounter with Abraham Lincoln before homesickness sets in.

3. There was a post on here the other day about a Helen Thomas documentary on HBO
Coming in August...

"Thank You, Mr. President"

The story of Helen Thomas, who's covered every President since JFK as a White House press correspondent.

I can't wait to hear what she says about the monkey.

I love Helen Thomas. She was one of the few journalists who had the guts to stand up to Bush in the early post 9/11 days. I remember writing to her in response to a great column that she write and was shocked to get a personal reply from her. She is one of a dying breed.

Published: June 09, 2008 12:20 PM ET

NEW YORK Washington, D.C. legend Helen Thomas has been off the job for the past three weeks suffering from a gastric infection that has caused her to miss her weekly column for Hearst Newspapers, according to Hearst D.C. Bureau Chief Chuck Lewis.

Lewis said Thomas, 87, was hit with the illness on May 18 and has not written a column since May 14. Her weekly columns are distributed each Wednesday to all 500 clients of Hearst News Service.

"She is being treated for an infection and is on leave," Lewis told E&P Monday. "She became ill and has been recovering ever since. We expect her back, but I am not sure when. We have been moving a note that she is away and her column will resume when she does."

Lewis said recent conversations with Thomas indicate "she is getting stronger and we expect her back, but not this week."
