Tony Snow, and cancer
Hadn't planned on posting anything about this whole thing, until I heard this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lq6dpoLwbY

I'll leave it at that.

1. I am only responsible for my own humanity, my own empathy, my own compassion.
They are not conditional on what others do or do not and my life is not diminished by exercising them.

6. Beautifully stated, elocs. You are a kind human being. May I post this in my web journal?

5. That video brought me to tears when I first saw it. I posted here because I didn't know the group
at all. I just love this video.

My stepkids lost their mother to stomach cancer. She was 34. Her oldest boy was 13, and there were two young girls, ages 11 and 8.

The video makes me cry even today. I married the widower, brought my two little kiddos, ages 3 and 2, to this marriage. I tried to fill in for the dead woman, and didn't do as good as job as I might have. There was no stepfamily support and no grief counseling for the family.

However, good news! The youngest stepchild took a step toward reunion with the family after ten years. She is now 45. She and her father met in one of the suburban cities of Portland(I was asked/told not to come) and they had a pretty good day together.

My daughter, five years younger, was finally able to meet with her stepsister, and there was the introduction of four "bonus" cousins.

Maybe this will be the step forward that we needed. I hope so. Regrettably, this stepfamily didn't turn out like the Brady Bunch, but there is still time as long as we are still alive.

In peace,

Radio Lady in Oregon

8. Tony's death is a reminder to us all that in many cases it doesn't matter
if you have insurance, or money, or access to the best health care. There are some diseases that cannot now be cured! I can only hope his death will prompt more research into cancer cures.
