2. If you have over 100k in cash in one account, call a cpa
otherwise you have nothing to worry about.

3. I recently closed an account at WAMU
after they froze my account for no reason, and transferred my $ to Bellco Credit Union.

No more banks for me.

5. WAMU is not a bank.
they are loan sharks.

Try your local credit union or Wachovia or Nations Bank

7. No kidding.

I'm currently *TRYING* to do a balance transfer on the credit card at $2,500 w/ 29% interest - and my wife just got a $30,000 interest free credit card offer from WAMU - one look is all it took before it was in its proper place - in the trash.

I'm hoping Discover will give me the 3.99% rate for at least 3 years to pay it down.

8. My parents bank both Bellco and Wachovia FWIW
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 10:10 PM by HawkeyeX
Wachovia & Bellco for their MM accounts, and Wachovia is used to pay bills as well. I think my parents Bellco holds a very small mortgage on the house we live in.

Dad has a business account with Colorado Capitol, and Mom with Citywide (she hates that bank and said will transfer)

They recently closed an account with US Bank due to poor customer service.

WB were also loan sharks using the World Savings Option ARM program. They will fail, just wait a couple years...

6. The banks are going down hill but the Federal government
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 07:46 PM by truedelphi
Is fixing it so that the banks go very slowly down the hill.

That way they can be "propped" up by the Feds taking the taxpayers' monies and diverting to the failing banking institutions - then stop for a while, then say, "Look it, we have not had a TOTAL financial meltdown YET so our strategy is working."

And then a week later they prop up more financial institutions.

Each prop up they do deflates the dolar more and that in part keeps the oil prices high.

And by December 31st we will have had a total meltdown - but at least our hard earned monies will by then have ALL been handed over to the top banking families to give them some very Golden Parachuites to go out on.

11. the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor your bank won't go under
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 11:12 PM by TexasObserver
But to be safe, make sure you don't have over $100,000 at any one bank.

The bigger the bank, the safer it is from failing. The Feds will always try to save the biggest banks.

12. We use Provident, Union Bank & WaMu
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 11:26 PM by SoCalDem
Love Provident...Union bank is where my husband has his "fun money"..they offered $100 to open a checking account, so he put some of his bonus money in, they gave us the $100, and he just kept it..

We originally banked at Household Bank, which got gobbled by Home Savings which got gobbled by WaMU.. I like thier online bill pay set up, so that's the one we have direct deposit in, and pay out from... They're ok, I guess, but I prefer Provident..that's where we have some CDs and I have MY personal slush fund :)
