Fort Knox?
I couldn't get to sleep one night last week, so I went downstairs and turned on the History Channel. That's usually guaranteed to put me to sleep. :D Anyway, they were doing a segment on Fort Knox. They talked about how the gold was donated by the people of the US during the Depression, the security around it, etc. Anyway, one of the things that struck me is that the US government used some of it to pay down the war debt after WWII. The American people demanded that the vaults be opened and an accurate accounting be made of the gold stored in there sometime during the 1960's or '70's. Eventually, the government did just that, and all was well.

Anyway, as I was starting to drift off, it occurred to me - if the * Administration could lie us into a war, manipulate the votes, torture prisoners of war, and spend us into bankruptcy - what's to stop them from raiding Fort Knox as well? Or to use it to pay off our debt to China? One of the things that Obama's Treasury Secretary should do is to make a full accounting of the gold in Fort Knox and make sure that it's all there!

1. All I can say is that those two rebates we got from Bush was
cover for something that we'll find out about in the near future.

10. There is no gold in Fort Knox, has anyone seen it recently?
Far as I have heard, the gold was put into the 12 Fed Reserve banks and moved around back and forth between Europe and elsewhere as needed.

I defy anyone to get a straight answer as to how much gold the US owns and where the US gold reserves are located. And I don't think that the answer is hidden to prevent thieves or for national security reasons. It is just of the nature of having a private corporation inside the government, beyond public scrutiny.
