Boise actors are wanted for a role they likely never dreamed of. The Pentagon is using a new training technique in the desert south of Boise and need actors to play Iraqi citizens.
The military hopes to train soldiers using real people to give soldiers a real-life feel before they hit the front lines. "We were learning as we did it overseas. Now when they come through here, they have the base line knowledge," Specialist First Class Dennis Zuchelkowski of the Idaho Army National Guard said.
The training is two fold, keep soldiers safe and keep innocent civilians out of harm's way. To do that, the soldiers will train in a simulated city that sits in the desert south of Boise. "You still want to treat them with respect, that's the bottom line. If you treat them with respect, they'll treat you with respect," Zuchelkowski said.
So the military is bringing in 100 Iraqis for the exercise that will run for two weeks in August. They're also looking for Boise men over the age of 18 to help play roles in their mock war. "In doing what there doing with Iraqis, the troops are really learning what it takes to save their lives and the lives of civilians," Casting Director Catrine McGregor said.
