First Guantanamo video released (excerpt) - Omar Khadr
Video excerpt and article

"It shows 16-year-old Omar Khadr being asked by Canadian officials in 2003 about events leading up to his capture by US forces, Canadian media have said.

The Canadian citizen is accused of throwing a grenade that killed a US soldier in Afghanistan in 2002.

He is seen in a distressed state and complaining that he has been tortured.

The footage was made public by Mr Khadr's lawyers following a Supreme Court ruling in May that the Canadian authorities had to hand over key evidence against him to allow a full defence of the charges he is facing."

8. Here's another link
The largest portion of the eight-minute segment shows a sobbing Mr. Khadr with his head buried in his hands, repeatedly moaning "help me, help me."

snip

At one point, the interrogator talks to Mr. Khadr about the detained Canadian's wish to go home. The interrogator says he can't help Mr. Khadr with that, but suggests Mr. Khadr help him stay in Guantanamo.

"The weather's nice ," the interrogator says. "No snow."

The joke falls flat.

10. Stressful. Yes. Tortured. No, but if the kid wasn't a murderer going in
he probably will be when he comes out.

15. Do you mean - that there is no torture on the video released?
That's just a few minutes of a several hour video

The Unending Torture of Omar Khadr

20. None that I saw. However he has definitely suffered psychological
torture. He is young and that is the sad part and he needs rehab, only because of that fact. If he is Canadian and a Taliban fighter and was willing to kill a US or a Canadian soldier, then he does need to answer for that. But because of his youth mercy needs to be shown to him. Having said that, this war should have been over a long time ago, and they all should have been repatriated.

21. You haven't seen all the of the tape. You do realize that, yes?
You saw maybe 8 minutes of a 7 hour tape.

And no tape of his "enhanced interrogation" at Bagram Airbase has been released.

held for far too long. But,if he was indeed Taliban and willing to kill a fellow Canadian or an American, he is old enough to reason that through. Sorry my sympathy only goes so far - BUT, if he was indeed tortured then that needs to be addressed.

13. Listen carefully and you'll hear this child* state that his wounded
arm was never given proper medical care. Remind you of anyone?

*He was arrested at age 15. He'd need a doctor's note to get an aspirin at the high school here.
