One person not in attendance: the dean of the White House press corps, Helen Thomas. Insiders tell us 87-year-old Thomas, who has covered every president since Kennedy, has not been feeling well the past few weeks. Her seat in the front row will be empty.

She has been out of action with a bad respiratory ailment for over a month now,
and the worrying part is that her home phone's mailbox is full, which means she
hasn't been there for a long time. We usually talk on weekends, so when she wasn't
picking up on a Sunday, it was a bad sign. Hearst hasn't been forthcoming either,
so either it's a long recovery or it's bad. I'm very much hoping it's the former.
This won't be the first time she's had a respiratory ailment in the past few years,
and she has always bounced back, but this one is REALLY taking long.

Based on the discussion between himself and Colbert last night, Jon Stewart was also hospitalized with gastroenteritis during the last two weeks.
