Was the Iraq War for Securing Oil Interests, or Was It Implementation of PNAC's Pax Americana?

In other words, was it to secure our energy future in Iraq (the most oil reserves are there) or was it simply an attempt to implement PNAC's vision of a new American Roman Empire, with a superpower America dominating the world through overt military and political acts?

2. From reading Greg Palast and others, it seems like it has been always a struggle

between both visions and infighting between members of each camp to have their vision emerge as the dominant view. But they worked together to get us into Iraq.

It seems to me there are multiple reasons for the Iraq war, with some being more salient to certain individuals than others. For Bush and Rove, I imagine the biggest goal was to make Bush a "war President" for the 2004 election. For Bush, I think it was largely Oedipal, too.

For Cheney it was oil and Halliburton profits and PNAC. For other PNACers, it would have been PNAC.
