Hillary Chat #1 - I must say she impressed me, and I am part of the "Hillary can't win" camp
I still feel that she has so much baggage that Karl Rove is having wet dreams over the thought of her getting the nomination, and many of us progressive liberals hate her stand on Iraq - but that said - I was impressed by most of her answers. Some ticked me off, but I will be back tomorrow.

So what did you all think?

My biggest fear isn't her as President - it's that nominating her gives the White House to another repuke. She isn't a liberal or a progressive but she would be a damn sight better than bush.

2. I was very impressed as well. She was very candid and got quite passionate on issues like...
...alternative energy and healthcare. The environment being my biggest issue, I was happy to see that she wasn't just status-quo-Democrat on that issue and instead seemed very ambitious and even somewhat aggressive on those issues.

4. I only caught the last 5 minutes. I'm also in the "Hillary can't win" camp.
I also am leary of the DLCers. However, I think it was a very smart move.

Did she get a question about her IWR vote?

8. Yes.
She began with the IWR issue and I thought she did very well explaining her vote, though I wouldn't have voted the same way.

12. Do you think the chat will be available for viewing later?
I'd really like to see how she responded. I'm also one who wonders if I can ever forgive those who voted for the IWR. I have a lot of anger about that, and I'd have to get past that in order to support Hillary. (Although I would vote for her if she gets the nomination.)

Thanks for the info.

on her website with her announcement video and others.

5. Go Joe!
First post....
Me too I really am not optimistic that Hillary can take either Florida or Ohio..
I am no expert but the same goes for Barrack Obama (although I root for him)
I guess the safe bet would be Joe Biden knows a lot about foreign policy and never heard anything about him that will cause some commotion.

11. Welcome to DU!
Biden actually ran for prez in '88 and had to drop out because he plagiarized something. I can't remember details, but it was eons ago.

15. Looking forward to spirited discussions and tons of learning
Exactly what I am looking forward to learning something, I didn't have any interest in politics since about couple of months ago realizing how Bush and others are ruining my future with reckless spending, stupid foreign policy, among others : )......But wouldn't you prefer someone like Joe Biden rather than Hillary, although I claim to be a Democrat I don't like her at all I can see myself voting for a John McCain than voting for Hillary..

17. If you don't like Bush
McCain shouldn't be your cup of tea, either. He's been Bush's best friend the last few years, all because he wants the GOP nomination. He has no principles left.

10. bush = baggage. and it was all full of garbage.
did it matter? almost 1/2 of the voters voted for him in 2000 and somewhat less in 04 but still a bunch.
why worry about any democrats baggage? its not the baggage, its how they carry it. she is strong enough.

16. Her differences are limited to the social issues.
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 07:56 PM by nebula
But on the most critical, pressing issues of our time--economic, trade, war, foreign policy--Hillary's positions are only marginally, if at all, different from the GOP contenders.

And her voting record proves it.

Oh yeah, and she's a woman--which is really the only 'meaningful' difference between her and the Republicans. If you can call that meaningful.

19. hmm, you might want to look into her voting record on trade & economic issues
before saying she voted the same as GOP contenders. Here record is considerably different than McCain's for instance.

20. Anyone is better than
bush so that's not saying much.

hillary is my senator and I remember her ignoring her constituents and voting for the IWR and the last I heard she's hangin' out on the fence in the middle of the road.

The War On Iraq didn't go quite as you expected did it, hil&bil?

Too bad about that triangulation thingy.

Is there anything up on her website?

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/

I signed up yesterday and thought there was supposed to be an email beforehand. Didn't get any. I was out and thought I would come home and read the transript and there is nothing about it on the site except to register which I did already.
