Anyone else wonder if the GOP strategy for small government
Is to make the government run so poorly in situations like Katrina that it just can't be trusted to do anything right?

Defund and misdirect things like public schools and the FDA and then point at them and say "See! We need to give your money to Halliburton to run things instead!"

1. I have suspected that for a long time.

They "prove" government doesn't work by fucking it up. After they fuck it up they say, "See, told you so; government doesn't work."

What this really means is that the government should never be entrusted to people who don't believe in government.

8. Should be the Dems slogan -
"We're not for 'big' government ... we're for effective government. Repukes are for lousy government ..."

On the "mommy state" insult ... have you ever seen a mother protecting her young? That should be an image we need to project ... "Yeah, the Mommy state ... protecting the young from the drunken, abusive Daddy state ..."

3. Finally! You've identified something they're really good at:
getting people to trust the government even less.
Actually that theory was floated some years back - destroying the Federal government from within. Spend it into debt so deep we'll never get out of it. All future taxation will just be for paying off the debt.

5. Wonder? No. We can see it in front of our eyes.

It's the Grover Norquist ideology.

Under the guise that "government doesn't work," sucker the fools into electing you into office and then prove it doesn't work by deliberately sabotaging the process......

On top of that, spend the people's money on trumped up wars and pet projects that do nothing but siphon the treasury dry so it can't be spent on social projects that actually help the people at large...

6. Repubs say government doesn't work, then they get elected and prove it.
