A question about Army recruiting.

Today I took my kids to a small amusement park and there was a flyer for the local Army recruiting office. The contact was a Corporal. I was always under the impression that recruiters were Sergeants. Is this a sign of a stretched thin Army or have there always been Corporals as recruiters?

1. A large recruiting station could even have a few privates running around.

I'd imagine doing acting as an assistant really doing the recruiter's dirty work.

10. Corporal recruiters in the army is common and has been common

just because corporals have pretty much the same if not the same responsibilities as an E-5. I doubt you'd find a Specialist as a full time recruiter.

8. Actually it could be...

When I graduated basic training and AIT they had a program (which your hometown recruiter has to pull you for) is hometown recruiting in which you go out there with the flyers and stuff in your uniform asking individuals to think about the army and if you did for 1 person you would get a cash bonus and a promotion if you were E-2 or E-1. I never did this because I never asked my recruiter to pull me.111

2. In today's army

I can't speak for previous times. A corporal is the same pay grade as a specialist but a corporal is a junior NCO(Non-commissioned office-Sergeant for example) so a Corporal is usually Department of the Army selected which means you have done something usual to attain the rank as a E-4 which would be a recruiter in which he can cross over to other units as a corporal while some corporal ranks are given by unit commanders which he/she feels he/she has done a well enough job to hold the corporal responsibility but will lose the rank transferring to another unit.

Corporal's in the army have somewhat the same responsibility as a sergeant or nco, such as holding a squad/section leader, write counselings, as well as other NCO responsibilities maybe such as recruiting, I don't believe any Drill Sergeants that I know of are corporal's but I'll never rule it out.

but you will get flak from other NCO if you're not a SGT.

6. Corporal is probaly the worst rank to be in the army

E-4 and below doesn't like you because you are not lower enlisted, E-5 and above don't like you because you're not a sergeant but rather just an E-4 like a specialist.

5. Back when I was in the Navy there was a program

It was called "Homestead" or something like that, where a junior enlisted person would get temporary orders to go back to their hometown and work with local recruiters. The idea was that you were probably just a few years out of high school and you could persuade local people close to your age to enlist. This may be something like that, or maybe they really are hurting for personnel. You're right that recruiters are typically E5s at a minimum.
