I look at this day as the absolute end of late 20th century innocence. A big banner flying on a plane reading, "Sorry, the world is a fucked place."

The people who recorded this waited 5 years to release the video in 2006. If you listen to the video, they watch thousands of people die. Horrific. The footage included many wide range closeups of the jet fuel burn dmg slowly eating away at the building... previously unshown.

I can only hope that as we continue to move forward from this tragic event, despite our shortcoming in leadership shortly after, we can overcome this and show the world that the United States of America is here to stay. We are indeed a resilient nation.

4. September 11 was the beginning of the 21st Century.
Not in the chronological sense, but just as ideologically the 19th Century began with the French Revolution and ended with the First World War, September 11th was a milestone in the history of the West. I do not wish to sound like the endless fools who mindlessly assert that that event "changed everything," the effective cover for all lawless actions in its wake, but merely to note that we have not fully yet grasped the significance of that event, and years will likely yet pass until we totally understand what it changed.
