Readers speak out, 'La Cucaracha' returns to LA Times
... Lalo Alcaraz, the creator of "La Cucaracha," said he was dumbfounded when he opened his hometown paper and saw no sign of the comic strip. But the move was short-lived.

Times spokeswoman Nancy Sullivan credited "reader reaction" with the decision to bring "La Cucaracha' back. She couldn't immediately say how many unhappy e-mails the Times had received but noted it was "enough that we thought we should listen and bring it back."

To make room, the Times gave the boot to veteran comic strip cat "Heathcliff."

1. So They Deleted Heathcliff?
I'm no fan of the ol' cat, but isn't that strip like an institution? Been around for as long as I can remember.

What's their problem, do they need more room for advertising since their readership is declining rapidly?

3. Candorville was nothing special.
Out of all the quote unquote political strips in the LA Times, it was always one of the most ham-fisted and least expertly drawn. I say "one of" because Mallard Filmore was the WORST in both respects, and now that one's gone too.

My only question: what happened to "Boondocks"?

4. I Think They Got Rid of Mallard Fillmore, Too
Not that I miss it or anything. Good riddance. But at least La Cucaracha is returning.:)
