Poll question: Would you expect the police to respond to your call?

I wouldn't expect them to respond if I called. I'd expect them to tell me that they didn't care or had other things to do.

1. They already told me they couldn't respond

We're 25 miles from their dispatch center. They have no regularly scheduled patrols in this area. In fact they have only two deputies on patrol at any time in a large sparsely populated county. That's probably why they were so lenient with me when I had my little encounter with a burglar a few years back.

2. They put their new police station about two tenths of a mile from my apartment.

So, yes, I'd expect service, and rapid service at that.

3. Shit, yesterday they reported to our home without having ever called them!

Something about someone's chain having turned up missing from a tree in their yard.

4. Yes. Our cops grew up in this neighborhood

and I've learned that I can trust them in a way I never have been able to in any other neighborhood.

They are the most professional cops I've ever met. They can be trusted with anything from your odd uncle to protecting you from gangs trying to overrun the neighborhood. Most of all, when they come on mental health calls to my block, they are quick, smart and want a good outcome as much as any of us do. I've never been able to say that about any group of cops where I had to live with Doug.

I've never seen a whole station so right-headed. That must be some awesome leadership, right there and of course, our great guys that go out there, every day, in this city.

5. I've called 3 times in the last 2 weeks about gunshots.

I think it's someone in the next neighborhood over gettin his beer on and shooting the damn thing up in the air. (what goes up must come down and I don't want it coming down on some poor soul mindin their own bidness) I call the non emergency number, not 911. The last time I called the operator said - I kid you not - "What the fuck do you want "US" to do about it?"

I'm 15 miles south of Atlanta. A major suburban area surrounded by police stations. Sheriff Victor Hill keeps telling me he's gonna clean up this place. The little general wants to drop kick the police dept and put everything under his authority. Has billboards all over the county. Damn things are probably full of bullet holes.............

I live in a small community with its own police force. I see the Chief at charity functions twice a month. I support local groups in their charitable efforts frequently and so does he.

Our police officers are on the scene in five minutes or less, no matter who the caller is. It's the advantage of having a small community dedicated to maintaining a peaceful, tranquil life.

They live among us, and have to see everyone every day, everywhere. That really makes police more human to the people they serve, and it makes citizens more friendly and supportive of their police.

I believe that's the key to good relations between police and citizens. The police need to live among and know their citizens. That puts a stop to things that grow from anonymity or misunderstanding.

It seems cops are as likely to arrest the person who calls 911 as they are to arrest the criminal you called about. Cops are basically lazy, fascist thugs, who aren't interested in solving crimes and enforcing the law: they're just out there to intimidate the public.

All they ever seem to do is drive around looking for speeders and DUI's. Tucson's crime rate stays the same year over year but they keep adding more cops. I never see them patrolling neighborhoods only highways and byways looking for that next score or that next victimless crime.

19. Thats exactly my view on cops. They have never once been there to help me, just to issue a citation.

Anyone who counts on the police to "protect" them from harm is out of thier minds, IMO.
