Nebraska Senator Hagel to announce 2008 plans

Mar 7, 2007 — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Vietnam War veteran who has been openly critical of the administration's strategy in Iraq, will announce on Monday whether he plans to run for president in 2008.

Hagel, a two-term Nebraska senator, said he will hold a news conference in Omaha "regarding his future plans." Nine other Republicans are seeking the party's nomination to succeed President George W. Bush in 2008.

Hagel and aides did not discuss his intentions, but he accepted an offer to appear at a labor forum for presidential candidates from both parties next week in Washington.

1. I like Hagel
I honestly do not know where he stands on other things, but I like his position on Iraq. It will be interesting to see what his plans are.

4. Very conservative - anti choice, anti-environment, anti-union!

Granted, Hagel's position on the f'cked up Iraq war has been bold and contrary to his rethug allies - but other then that, he is very much a Bushnik.

Beware!

3. Of course he will.
No incumbent is running, so this is an open field year for both parties. I like Hagel because he has a conscience, but I don't trust him because he continues to vote with the party and against his conscience on many crucial issues.
