Went to vote today and got goose bumps
We have Advanced Voting in Kansas. Today was the first day to advance vote in the August 5th primary. So I went up to the election office and there was nowhere to park! There was a line of cars literally circling the lot! Some of those people may have been going to renew their tags but I drive by this office all the time. (It is just a few blocks from my house and around the corner from my grocery store.) And I have never once seen that many cars there. It was just incredible.

You know what they say about heavy turnout!! And this is JUST a primary election. :woohoo:

1. It's been the same all over the country
I had to stand in line an hour and 15 minutes here in NM, a state where it's usually in and out within ten minutes, campaign workers bored to death.

Nobody in that line was talking about the primary candidates. Everybody was talking about what a mess the GOP has made of everything they've touched for the past 30 years.

3. Yes that's all I heard in our caucus line in Feb
It was cold and it started freezing rain. But hundreds stood in line for hours for a caucus. It was beautiful.

2. That is powerful news from both of you.
Both states are showing the red in them might not be as red as the MSM might want us to believe. High turnout in Kansas is a very good sign. Talk like that in an NM line is amazing.

No wonder the freepers and repukes are flailing so much these days.

4. Great news!
I am going to be out going door to door in JoCo Sunday for KEC. It will be interesting to hear what people say.

7. I go where they tell me but
I don't think we are going to do this for Andy, not this time anyway. He is in our corner and I hope he does well. Has Slattery been working hard or is he coasting on his name?

8. He has a significant presence here
I am impressed so far. I really like Lee Jones but Slattery is working a lot harder than Lee.

Slattery went to Netroots last week. He is really reaching out to progressives. And his campaign is asking for our help - almost daily.

9. KEC has endorsed Andy
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 09:00 AM by MuseRider
and if we end up with enough people we will probably walk for him as well. The problem, as you well know, is getting people to do the walking and calling, especially walking in the heat. Slattery is not going to be good for KEC, Andy is very good. I will be pulling for Andy.

Edit: I think (I am pretty certain) that Kansans For Life PAC has endorsed Slattery. You might want to look that up because I am pretty sure the progressives will not want to have much to do with that.

12. I am going to go
chat with the GLBT caucus, this came from one of their members and if it is not true it needs to be stopped. Thanks, if I find out anything else I will let you know. I know I was pretty surprised by that but I do know he is not a friend of the GLBT community. Be back when (if) I get any answers. It always pisses me off when someone does this so I am now pissed at myself!

13. They didn't endorse any Dems in Johnson County
I am going to a Slattery event tomorrow. Write me a good question on this topic and I will ask him.

14. I spent an hour and a half
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 07:30 PM by MuseRider
trying to find out what this was all about. The person I got the info from said he read it in the KC Star but now that he looks at the website it is not there. Probably there was a mistake and they corrected it? Anyway...my bad. I should know better than to post something that I was told, even if the person should know exactly what is going on, without looking it up myself. Grrrrr.

Here is a good question for him.....maybe two. Ask him about HB2299, the bill that was introduced by Lance Kinzer (who else) to make it illegal for cities or counties in Kansas to enact an ordinance allowing Domestic Partnerships. If he says he does not support it ask him if it is because he supports the GLBT communities rights to partnership and all the comes with it or if it is because he believes the state should not have this much power over a city/county. Home rule seemed to be a big part of this failing. http://www.kslegislature.org/bills/2008/2299.pdf (I wish it failed because this state voted for equality)

Next question. I would ask him about his position on abortion. I don't think his dad is pro choice (this is just me putting together a few things and I would really like an answer). Won't that be great if the only way we can unseat Roberts is to vote for an anti choice Dem? Is Lee Jones pro choice? Do you know? I have not looked yet...better get on that.

Sorry to drag your thread out, I was busy all afternoon.

BTW, have you seen any of the debates between Lyn Jenkins and Jim Ryun? I know they are not in your district (Moore right?) but I wondered if you had. I have not watched but I did see a part of one. She has no problem calling him out. It was pretty funny, he looked very uncomfortable and so did the two news people who were moderating. LOL, it was great. The heart of a race horse indeed! I agree with the awkward as a colt part. Those have to be the funniest political ads I have ever seen.

Edit for clarity and spelling

17. His dad?
Okay I want to make sure you are talking about JIM Slattery. His son, Mike, is running against Andy. And yes, Jim is pro choice. Came up at the meeting we had with him last week.

This looks like only state level candidates but it's good info http://www.kansascity.com/opinion/candidates/

18. I thought you meant Mike.
You are going to a Jim Slattery event? That is different. How confusing. :)

Thanks for the choice info. I have been so wrapped up in other stuff that I am woefully behind about anything except our own endorsements.

My question was for Mike, sorry.

5. Gorgeous news
That's so wonderful, and thank you for sharing. If it keeps up - and I don't see why it won't - the prognosis is excellent.

I'll be voting by absentee ballot, the only way my tech buddies assure me my vote won't be stolen.

And I'll be voting for Obama, an act I find just beautifully unbelievable in the country of my birth.
