Anyone heard from Sapphire Blue this week?

Her last post was Friday, March 2. It's not like her not to post about legislation that is pending and keep us all on track to get calls made and emails sent.

I know she has not been well lately and I'm worried about her. So, if you've heard from her, please let me know.

I sent her a pm on Monday and no response.

Oups... now that I took the time to read the posts from your link I saw that she did refer to her battle with cancer.

In the post I found (february-01-06) she explains that she had to deal with 3 forms of cancer...

Anyhow, we will eventually hear from her.

34. I don't know whether it's a health absence right now, but I DO KNOW

that she has been discouraged about the lack of attention paid to poverty here on DU.

She felt like she was doing all she could to get people to call and write, and it wasn't having an effect.

I share her discouragment, and ask...

WHY is this not an issue of importance?

WHAT would it take to get people to take it all very seriously?

There are times I have felt the same way. There IS alienation here if you are concerned with the rights of the poor or bring up issues relating to injustice, etc against the poor.

So I don't look for that here anymore because it's fighting a losing battle to try to wake people up. I come here for all of my news, for the wonderful insight of DUers whom I like (and love in some cases) and I try not to get dicouraged when poverty is rarely addressed here.

I hope SB knows that many of us po' folk DO care and I also hope she is well and happy and at least checks in with someone.

Again, my guess, but I know she got quite discouraged.

If people TRULY do care for Sapphire, the best thing they can do is to stir people up, and make sure that the budget impact on poor folk gets discussed, and some REAL PLANS forumulated on how to get a real uproar started over it.

I mean, really.... if we can have thousands of people travel to DC for a peace rally, how does that make poor folk feel that people can't even take the time to make some phone calls?

IT HURTS!!

We all do what we must, so if you have given up on DU for poverty support, I can understand.

BUT... I"ll be goddamned if I will any longer give support to other issues, when my very survival is not deemed worth the time for even a phone call.

I don't have much time to post here, but I always read her posts and appreciated that she was actually urging us to DO SOMETHING, rather than just post on DU. Not saying that there aren't plenty of activists here, but this issue is very pressing and I wouldn't be surprised if she was just discouraged about the lack of attention.

I posted about ONE.org (The Campaign to End Global Poverty) and my son's involvement in it, and received very few responses. I know Sapphire's concern was more about US poverty, which is a tragedy, but I didn't even bother to post in the poverty forum because I don't think those groups get much attention.

Sad.
