Obscene, Absurd, Unconcionable!
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 03:51 PM by rpritchard
Delawareans up and down the state were thrilled to see, that for the first time in decades, they would have a choice in a Democratic Primary. As a fifteen year old, I had never lived to see a competitive gubernatorial primary in my state. When Jack Markell made his intentions clear that he was running for governor, the folks on the inside, the people behind closed doors got nervous. They said it wasn't his turn. Wait for the next cycle. Thankfully, Jack Markell stood up, he stood up for you, and he stood up for me. He stood up for a brighter future for all Delawareans, and against all odds he has waged a campaign not based on who's next in line, but who has the best ideas to move the state forward.

While Lt. Gov. John Carney, his opponent continues to cling to the fundamentally flawed policies of the Minner-Carney Administration, Jack Markell has stood for bold new initiatives to move this state forward. He understands that it is not only a moral obligation, but a financial necessity to bring about Universal Health Care. Jack knows that in order for this state to conserve energy, we need to limit the costs of weatherizing homes for the poorest most desperate citizens. Jack Markell knows that the only way to have a top-notch education system is to get rid of our Minner-Carney aged Delaware State Testing Program, a program that by all accounts has failed miserably, and replace it with a system with real-time results and meaningful feedback.

Despite this, Jack has hit one speed-bump. The Delaware Democratic Party, a hand-picked panel of Minner-Carney supporters, has endorsed John Carney to succeed Ruth Ann Minner, the woman that gave them their jobs. Imagine that. Their endorsement must have really come from the heart, huh? For the first time in ages, this state organization has chosen one Democrat over another, and now they are even spending money on his behalf. They are using my money, my family's money, and donations from Markell supporters across the state to support John Carney, and his campaign. While we were all told that our donations would go towards the betterment of the Democratic Movement in Delaware, the only thing that has happened is that our party has been divided, and a line has been drawn in the sand. Using money from Markell supporters, the Delaware Democratic Party has deemed it acceptable to run ads supporting Carney...?

This is how we lose. This is how our party shoots ourselves in the foot. It has got to stop. It is incredulous, obscene and absurd! So I ask you, stand with Jack Markell, the true Democratic Progressive, and let's defeat John Carney! Donate whatever you can and support real change, bold initiatives and real leadership. Let's restore respect to the Governor's Mansion in 2008!

For all of my fellow Delawareans, make phone calls, knock on doors; let's do whatever we can to elect Jack Markell governor in 2008! Make the campaign about who has the best ideas, not who's next in line! To get involved, call the office at 302-283-1420!
