Is Katie Next?
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 07:47 AM by Dinger
Her producer being replaced by Kaplan, due to low ratings. CBS back to bottom in ratings. ABC (yuk!) gets top spot in evening news. Whatever.

"The shake-ups at the evening newscasts continued last night.

Rick Kaplan left as president of MSNBC in June.
In the latest disruption, CBS News replaced Rome Hartman, the executive producer of the “Evening News with Katie Couric,” with the long-time TV news executive and producer Rick Kaplan, said several people who were informed of the move.

The decision follows a run of disappointing ratings for the CBS newscast, which had introduced Ms. Couric as its anchor with great fanfare in September. Though the program initially scored impressive ratings, and had increased ratings among some audience groups like younger women, it had sunk back to its long-established spot of last place among the three network newscasts in terms of total viewers. . . . .

1. Serves them right
What were they thinking when they thought she could be the face of news.

5. I read the other day that Kaplan was blaming the local CBS stations for the low ratings.
Said that no body was watching the local CBS news shows that lead into Katie. How wrong he was! I turn the station over to ABC as soon as the local news is done. I wrote to CBS way back and told them there was no way I would watch with Katie as the anchor.

7. There's just nothing CBS can do to make me think of Couric as a serious journalist.
She can read a teleprompter with the best of 'em but she isn't in Murrow's, Cronkite's or even Rather's league. The whole thing reminds me of LA Story and how the local news took Steve Martin's clownish weatherman character, put horn rimmed glasses on him and made him the anchor.

10. If her ratings keep sliding, I'll bet she won't be there in a year.
Oh, they will let her do prime time specials (like Babwa Walters)and pieces for Sixty Minutes and try to make it like she was just reasigned not fired from the network news.
