Conservatives slam Ann Coulter
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 08:24 AM by ck4829
Andrew Sullivan - "She said—and conservatives applauded—that I and so many others are not men. We are men, Ann."

Ed Morrissey of Captain's Quarters - "Yeah, that's just what CPAC needs—an association with homophobia. Nice work, Ann." :sarcasm:

Michelle Malkin - "Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees."

John Hawkins of RightWingNews - "What's on tap for next year? Will she drop the N-bomb? Will she use the C-word to describe Hillary Clinton? Whatever her plans are, after being burned twice in a row, CPAC shouldn't invite her back next year."

Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition - "One should never resort to vicious name calling or personal attacks in an attempt to prove a political point."

1. Now that their party is imploding they condemn her. I'm afraid it's too
little too late. Annie is the face of the republicon movement. Period.

3. I never hesitate to refer to her as something like
"Republican spokesperson"

Or "Prominent Republican"

or "Leading Republican"

or similar

4. Maybe next
They'll have former candidate for governor of California (ex porn star) Mary Carey complaining how Coulter is tarnishing the pure image of the GOP.

5. Well, you have to at least have to commend real conservative for cleaning up their act.

Although the reality is they are so low on support they now don't even want to offend gay people now. Who they have tried to oppress for years now, it's a move in the right direction but not sure it will appease that many voters.

15. Pfffft. You're kidding, right?
This changes nothing. They're more worried about looking like overly ugly bigots instead of just calm sensible bigots. Coulter only said it because she knew that was how the crowd thinks.

If you think this changes their attitude about homosexuals you haven't been paying attention. No offense.

11. ...and buy her books to keep those royalty checks coming
Coultergeist's laughing all the way to bank with "their money" in her purse. They might not ever invite her to a public speaking engagement again, but they'll still line up and swoon to get her autograph after buying her latest can of hate.

14. Who is the right wing trying to fool, anyway?
She said it, because it's the way they honestly feel.

"Yeah, that's just what CPAC needs—an association with homophobia. Nice work, Ann."

Ummm, he's kidding, right? For the past two terms the right has reeked of homophobia.

It reminds me of a conversation about racism I heard years ago that has stayed with me. An older African American was asked how his life had improved since the civil rights era. He said not by much. In the old days, he said, racism was out in the open, easy to identify. Now it was hidden. The Silent Racism, he called it. Which he thought could be more dangerous in some ways.

It's like these folks. They don't want to use the terms, look ugly in public. But it's what they believe regardless of how they chastise Coulter. And we shouldn't forget it.
