Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum said Thursday he has signed a deal to be a contributor on the Fox News Channel, offering commentary on politics and public policy.

"It's an opportunity for me to continue to talk about the issues I care about and to speak to the country ... outside of government as opposed to inside," Santorum told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

A spokeswoman for Fox confirmed an agreement was signed. Neither she nor Santorum disclosed terms of the contract.

Santorum said he will make occasional appearances on the network to address a wide -- but not unlimited -- range of topics.

"I don't do (commentary on) Anna Nicole Smith, that's all," he said. "So I wouldn't have had much opportunity to be on in the past couple of weeks."
