My crazy fundamentalist aunt in Georgia got a couple of "reply all" with the appropriate debunking snopes.com link from me and I stopped getting her nutso emails.

We are still friendly with each other at holidays and when I see her, but she knows where I stand on things. (With the truth, I guess!)

He and my father both sent me stupid racist crap about Obama. My mother sent me baloney calling him a leftist who would turn our country into a communist nation. And my sister told me some crap about how all African leaders set out to wipe out the white citizens as soon as they are in office. Needless to say they are a bunch of freeper idiots and I'm not talking to any of them anymore. Thing is, 8 years ago they weren't like this. I never would have heard racist stuff from them. I would never have believed they were racist. Perhaps they always were racists but it was not as permisable as it is today to express such ugly and ignorant thoughts? I don't know. But I blame hate speech from fox news, ann coulter, rush limbaugh and others like them. That they weren't slapped down long ago is a great tragedy in our nations history. Luckily I live 3200 miles away from me family and don't have to interact with them. I'm kinda pissed at my mom though because she is trying to guilt me into communicating by sending my four year old extravagant gifts.

It's a sad situation. I feel bad for you that your on the outs with family. I know how it is, and it sucks.

16. My sister sent me the Obama's gonna tax us all to death email yesterday.

I replied with the Snopes link as well as a comment that I don't ascribe to the "I've got mine, screw you" mentality. She responds back that Snopes is left-leaning, so of course they would debunk the crap in the email. She was also a tad offended that I think she and her doctor hubby are self-centered rethuglicans.

I used to do the Snopes "reply all", but she learned to use the BCC, so now I just send it to her. I had been holding my tongue for the most part, not wanting to alienate my sister. She also sends this kind of crap to my mom (former Repub but now a Dem who will NEVER vote R again!) who gets very upset. Mom has told her numerous times to take her off her spam list, but dear sis persists in sending these emails to mom. My other sister (a strong Dem) also is pissed and does the debunking but to no avail.

Today is the day I finally had enough. The backhanded (and not so backhanded) insults about my liberal/progressive views and the relentless glorification of all things Raygun and B*** can no longer be ignored. I can no longer be silent. The toxicity is something I can no longer tolerate. Life is too short.

Someone forwarded this email to me. It’s from a 83-year old widow woman from Iowa who met McCain while he was campaigning there recently. It has to be all true because it was in an email and no one would ever spread lies via email about a presidential candidate; such an act would be wrong. Please pass it along because it shows 100%, unequivocally how evil McCain is and why he must not win the presidency.

Dear Quilting Bee Members:

I’m barely able to type this email to you because my broken fingers have not yet fully healed. When Sen. McCain was visiting our fair city a month ago, he came by my house for a photo opportunity. As you all know, my husband was a highly decorated battle captain in Korea who died fighting off a complete regimen of North Koreans while attempting to save a downed American Air Force pilot who looked a lot like William Holden. In fact, my husband was the inspiration for the movie The Bridges at Toko-Ri, so everything I say must be doubly true and repeated early and often. Also, please put it on the Internet because those people will believe anything.

Sen. McCain came into my living room with an entourage of photographers and was very kind. Then the photographers left and he said to me, “Well, now that I’ve used you for my campaign, I’ll see you later c**t.” I couldn’t believe my ears. I asked him to repeat what he said and he yelled back, “Shut up, you old hag. Where’s your crapper? I’m going to drop a couple of bombs myself and then get out of this hellhole.”

I was shocked that this man who had been so kind while the photographers were around was now being so rude, so I asked him politely to leave. That’s when he just went ballistic. He knocked over three of my lamps, broke a couple of my best china pieces, and then took my dead husband’s Medal of Honor and said he was going to have it melted down and made into something called a “cock ring.” I don’t know what that is, but I didn’t like the sound of it.

As if all that weren’t enough, he then said not only was he going to have his SUV do doughnuts in my front yard killing all of my petunias, he was also going to run over my kittens one by one. When I raised my hands to stop him, he broke all my fingers while laughing at me as I screamed in pain. As he was leaving, he said, “You know granny, the funny thing is I hate America. I hate the flag. I hate the troops. I hate guns and I love abortion. Also, when I become president, we’re going to make Spanish the official language of the U.S. and I’m going to trade arms to Hezbollah so they can destroy Israel. Finally, I don’t believe in God. See ya, you old battle ax.” He then defecated on our family Bible, and wiped himself with the Book of Deuteronomy.

So, fellow quilting bee members, please pass this along to as many people as you can. Every word is true. This man must be stopped.

Near the end of the page at the Snopes link, it's related that not only does the guy who signed the e-mail repudiate it, but another soldier says he hopes the guy is court-martialed for lying.

These hate-filled, lie-spreading, wingnut e-mailers, and the gullible who forward and believe them, sicken me. Don't Rightwingers have anything else to do all day except flood peoples' inboxes with crap???
