Fox's 1-2 Punch: 'Idol,' '5th Grader'

Three nights of escapist entertainment that kept parents and their children watching television together led Fox to a dominant week in the ratings.

Fox coupled three editions of "American Idol" with three installments of the new game show "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" last week. The Jeff Foxworthy-led game show, with parents stumped by questions from elementary school textbooks, was the most-watched series premiere in eight years.

Nothing else last week came within 5 million viewers of these programs, Nielsen Media Research said.

1. I think everyone on DU should see this movie!

It's pretty hilarious, it a totally frightening way.

Apparently there are all kinds of rumors swirling about Fox agreeing to produce it, and then regretting it once the movie was made... I guess it was never advertised, and was released only to a very limited number of theaters. Certainly understandable -- after seeing the movie, they must have realized it was a kick in the balls to their core viewership!
