Fitz call him? I would think if he truly was out to get Cheney he would have had him testify and possibly gotten him for perjury as well. Were we all just taken for a ride?

1. Why would Fitz call Cheney? Remember, the charge was
perjury. All the witnesses Fitz called were to support his case that Libby lied. What could Cheney possible contribute to that end?

I know we'd all love to see Cheney under oath, but a prosecutor can't just call someone to testify without a justifiable reason. Wells was calling Cheney to be a character witness FOR Libby, not to defend him against the charges.

3. But Cheney was a key figure in the perjury incident
Remember it was Cheney's notes and it was Cheney who first told Libby of Plame's status as a CIA agent. Libby said he learned it from Russert. I would have thought Cheney would have been able to clarify it a bit.

2. he thought Libby's atty was going to call Cheney
I believe this was a deliberate feint by Libby's defense, and apparently it gummed things up for Fitz.

4. Two reasons:
(1) Mr. Fitzgerald wanted to prosecute the case in a focused, narrow manner. It sure looks like it worked.

(2) If Mr. Fitzgerald called Cheney, it is possible the vice president would have resisted testifying. This could have extended the case, and taken the focus off the prize.

5. I thought Libby looked rather smug
He takes one for the boss with the thought of much renumeration down the line.
Libby can afford all the lawyers he needs and a short stint in a country club facility won't hurt his tennis game.

Does anyone think he will be put in the General Population where mortals go?
