Re-imaging History. A Gallery of famous doctored photos

A picture is worth a thousand words, and Photoshop and similar tools have made it easier than ever to make those words fib. But while computers enable easier and better photo manipulation, it is hardly a new phenomenon. Here is a sampling of some of the more famous altered photographs from the last century.

Before . . . ..................................................................... . . . After

Propagandists in the Soviet Union famously deleted politicians from photographs when they fell out of favor. In these photos, Vladimir Lenin celebrates the second anniversary of the Russian Revolution in Red Square. But in the second one, his comrade Leon Trotsky is suddenly persona non grata. Before . . . ..................................................................... . . . After

For decades after the Kent State shootings in 1970, several magazines unknowingly ran a sloppily manipulated version of the famous Pulitzer Prize-winning photo by John Filo. See if you can figure out what's missing from the manipulated photo compared to the original. Sources: http://journalism_jobs.tripod.com/a.filo.html

6. The individual to the far right of the of the photo is now identifiably
a commie-hippie type. I bet the shirt tail sticking out is of that fruit-bat paisley design and that his greasy mop of hair smells like patchouli

5. Was the fence between the students and the guardsmen?
Remove the fence from the photo, and it looks like they might have fired in self-defense...

That's the only :tinfoilhat: explanation I can think of.
