Laundry list of Bush Administration wrongdoings gets a little longer!
With Scott McClellan coming clean with some of the ways the Bush administration used Fox News to promote their talking points. Now, here is a story about how the Bush administration hired according to political affiliation.

Monica Goodling, I believe, fell on the sword and took one for the team. I saw an interview she did on CNN yesterday where she stated that the denying of people who are Democrats or liberals jobs was her own doing. She stated that she was never told how and who to hire. Goodling was a White House liaison for Alberto Gonzalez, and has taken the fall for the hiring practices this administration uses. Apparently, the buck will stop with her, and her testimony will shield Congress from going high up the chain of command to see who actually gave permission to use this hiring practice.

Political discrimination, "who'da thunk it!" But this is very interesting.

The report singles out Gonzales' former White House liaison Monica Goodling for violating federal law and Justice Department policy by using a political or ideological litmus test on job applicants without Republican or conservative credentials.

Democrats said the report affirms their charges of White House meddling in the hiring and firing of Justice Department employees.

"The cost to our nation of these apparent crimes was severe, as qualified individuals were rejected for key positions in the fight against terrorism and other critical department jobs for no reason other than political whim," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich.

"The report also indicates that Monica Goodling, (Gonzales' chief of staff), Kyle Sampson and Alberto Gonzales may have lied to the Congress about these matters," Conyers added. "I have directed my staff to closely review this matter and to consider whether a criminal referral for perjury is needed."

1. Some more disturbing links of qualified people denied jobs because of
their political affiliation.

The report does not name that attorney, but sources told The Buffalo News that it was William J. Hochul Jr., a winner of the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service -- and the husband of Kathleen C. Hochul, a longtime Democratic activist and former Hamburg Town Board member who was elected Erie County clerk in 2007.

The Justice Department's liaison to the Bush White House, Monica M. Goodling, blocked Hochul's appointment to the counterterrorism post, sources said.

"As a result, a much less experienced, but politically acceptable, attorney was assigned this important responsibility," says the report, issued by the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility and Inspector General.

While a recent report on illegal politicization of the Justice Department is a good first step in introducing accountability to the Bush administration, it would be "pathetic" if culpability stops with midlevel aides like Monica Goodling, a constitutional expert says.

A damning report released yesterday by the justice department's ethics office shows that 33-year-old Goodling systematically rejected qualified candidates for jobs due to their insufficient love for rightwing politics and the current US president.

"What is it about George Bush that makes you want to serve him?" Goodling asked one aspiring justice department lawyer. Another poor job-seeker was shot down by Goodling after expressing fondness for Condoleezza Rice, who - gasp! - supports abortion rights.
