Three things about Hagel
1. He would be forced to drop out of the GOP senate Caucus which helps 2. He could break the back of the REAGAN coalition of social fisccal and military conservatives. 3. He would split the GOP in significant ways in the South and we would wind up winning a plurality there and waltzing in Virgina and Ohio and Florida on election day.

2. Yeah, but he could pull antiwar people too. If you want a conservative indie run... |
|
I'd rather see a nutter like Brownbach do it.

I attended a lecture by Hagel last Friday at Rutgers University (my current higher education institution). He spewed blatantly false facts about Iran supplying Iraqi insurgents with weapons and arms (which was debunked by the WaPo about a week ago). Also, in 2006 no senator voted with the Bush administration more than Hagel. So, anti-war folk who would consider voting for Hagel need to do some more research on how Hagel actually isn't moderate at all. The Democratic candidate will get us out of the war AND help the middle and working class.

9. Yeah - I didn't get to ask my question... |

Pretty much only chose Middle Eastern studies staff, but his answers were interesting. I've been busy with exams and hw (remember - organic chemistry test!) but all that is over so I'll have time later tonight or tomorrow to post an overview of the questions that were asked and Hagel's answers.

12. But I didn't say progressives or moderates, I said antiwar people |
|
If the Democratic candidate winds up being, say, Hillary Clinton, I could see Hagel causing just as much trouble for us as for the GOP.

the antiwar crwd may be amped up over Iraq..but no way they vote for a Republican shill like Hagel.
No the deal is that he pulls far more votes away form the Republican social coservative base than I can count
Obams vs Guiliani vs. Hagel? We would have a chance to win every state. Even in the deep south. WHy? We got 98% of the black vote and 30$ of the white vote with Kerry as our nominee. If Rudy is the nominee, Hegel will pick up 30% of the "Values Voters" that only leave 30% for Rudy.

3. I agree Chuck could rock their world like Ralph only dreams of |
|
doing to the democratic hopefuls.
It would be the greatest show on Earth, watching them claw each other to pieces!

Hagel could play the centrist card and harm us. Bad idea, I think.

If a namby-pamby, war-loving, corporate-whore candidate manages to win OUR primary.
And WE'RE not going to let THAT happen, ARE WE?

14. But his recodr is anything but centrist anf the GOP is "stuck " with centrists l |
|
like Guiliani and Romney and old guys like McCain who is no trusted by the Fundies.
You run as a conservative independnt in this environmnet the only play is for the fundie base.
The problem is his war stand but that a real problem for the fundies.
Guilini is pro-choice and pro-war
Hagel opposes abortion ans is anti war.
What fun.
