Does anyone have any information on the people in Arkans who didn't get the trailers bush promised..
Bush is running all over trying to pretend that he is helping those affected by storms.. I saw the end of a clip about some who couldn't get there trailers or anywhere to stay just as those related to the Katrina disaster. There have been many storms that have happened lately is there any follow up about what happened to those people. I also wonder if Florida residents have gotten any assistance...

1. Well, really, the problem is that Bush, so far, has ignored Arkansas' governor's
request to be declared a disaster area. The tornadoes hit on Feb. 24. and there has been no response. The Representative is quoted in the news articles today about FEMA selling the mobile homes.

2. This is crazy...
he seems to pick and choose who he will help. This must be a blue state. This bastard only thinks that he is the so called president of some people and not all of the people...

6. Govenor is a Democrat (Beebe)
There was also the excuse proffered by the federal government was that the State of Arkansas currently has a budget surplus of 465 million and so don't really need the help. It was reported on here http://www.topix.net/state/ar at the bottom of the page, but the link is now dead unfortunately.

12. Arkansas now has a Dem governor
Huckabee was term limited and could not run for re-election. He does have a presidential exploratory committee. I do not beleive he has made an official announcement.

3. You can't use bush and promise in the same sentence
Bush is a liar by all accounts . I haven't heard a thing about the people in Arkan since they were on the news .

They will most likey become the forgotten ones as the Katrina victims have .

I wonder exactly what would happen if there were a major earth quake here in Los Angeles . Sen Boxer said in a resent email that FEMA has no plans in place for such an event . If the coast breaks off east of Hollywood I will be washed away and not have to worry about rescue attempts and would probably be better off .

8. This is what I have been saying all along...
since before he went into Iraq, the Dems were asking for homeland security funds and he and the repugs was calling this a police action. I thought that I would see a difference after 911, they are sending National guards over to Iraq and elsewhere.

When the hurricane hit in Florida a few months ago, I thought it was pitiful that they had prisoners out doing clean up. I posted it on here and no one thought that it was unusual. I also heard that the storm the other week destroyed some aircraft, but this was quickly removed from any news reports. I have never understood how that the republicons have made people believe that we are protected over here because the soldiers are in Iraq. They portray the situation as if this is world war 2 but the situation is not the same but bush is quickly turning it into world war 3.

4. No assistance
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 04:43 PM by Coyote_Bandit
to individuals and small businesses in Oklahoma as a result of the ice storms earlier this year. FEMA did make some assistance available to government responders. The insurance companies are denying claims saying that ice damage was not covered. Lots of folks were without electricity for over a week. Many have extensive damage to their homes from fallen limbs and trees and from ice dams.

edit for spelling

5. Here's a link to the article in our local paper today:
http://www.swtimes.com/articles/2007/03/08/news/news01.txt

<snip>

“What was transmitted to me was they said that the governor had not yet declared (a disaster area) and that we hadn’t asked for anything, which is bulls ...,” said David Maxwell, director of the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, who said he hoped that the Drew County group misunderstood what FEMA officials were telling them.

<snip>

McIntyre said the agency is attempting to gauge whether private insurance or state and local resources are enough to cover costs of the damage in Dumas. FEMA will not recommend the president declare the county a disaster area — such a declaration allows businesses and individuals to apply for federal aid — if that’s the case.

<snip>

Arkansas’ budget surplus of more than $800 million will be among factors considered in the disaster determination, he said.

FEMA officials told Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., that 85 percent of the 150 damaged homes were insured, which also contributes to their decision.
