Poor King George. all the riots, all the time.
Bogota residents have one advantage over US citizens, and it has nothing to do with access to coca leaves.

Massive riots are already occurring in advance of the president's visit to south america. US citizens, all too often, sit back with a beer in one hand and a remote in the other.

Similar riots are expected in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, - in fact, there are fears that he will be greeted with jeers and riots at every stop over the next week.

3. Ooooo GOOD! Do we get video? I just heard the nut on CNN say
Shrub is doing this SA tour because he's grabbing at straws to save his legacy. So far nothing in his past 6 years have been a success, so he's desperately hunting for something to make his mark in the final two years.

HEW SHRUB! Do you REALLY think SA is going to do it for ya????

4. It's nice to see people standing for what they believe in.
It's a shame most of us are lulled into a deep social coma thanks to the idiot box that keeps us entertained.

5. Yes, it's a shame we do things like vote the opposition party into power
instead of destroying property and yelling. :eyes:

7. From the unlinked article, it did not define riot. It also included jeers.
So jeers are destroying property? I've done some yelling in angry protest at some marches, but never loud enough to destroy property. I've read arguments that claim that lawful protests are "riotous" in nature when it is against one's own personal beliefs. So, unless there is an article that says the people of South America are destroying property at this particular protest, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I read otherwise.

My comment was based in the fact that we have a very lazy and apathetic electorate.

9. Um. Ok.

Seems we're going in circles.

Again, when I read a linked article from a reputable source that gives facts, then I'll make a judgment. Until then, I'll give the South American people the benefit of the doubt. I've been to protests that have later been reported as "riots" when it wasn't at all.

A few people behaving inappropriate doesn't necessarily represent the entire crowd. I'd rather see people protesting in the street than being completely apathetic to world issues.

At this point, the OP gave no link.

Edit to add;
There is another thread that I found at DU on this topic. The OP has linked an article.

11. How exactly do Brazillians vote the opposition party to bush
and the neocon neoliberal world order into power? They already elected Lulu, but he is very limited in what he can do due to the stranglehold the washington consensus has over Brazil's economy. How exactly do the people of Brazil vote Bush and Washington out of Latin America?

10. oh shit. that sucks.
But we see people who care enough to stand up and complain. there is a lesson, no several lessons in this one photo.

the biggest one is that South America truly hates Bush. He has given them every reason, and I don't see this trip changing things in the least. To the contrary, it means that Chavez will probably be greeted like a victor any and every place in that continent.

the next important lesson is that we can expect a strong police/quasi-military response to any public demonstration against the Bush Cabal. We saw it at the Democratic convention in 04. We have seen it in every US city that Bush visits to raise $$$. this will only get worse.

the next lesson is that Bush will come back an angry, spiteful, even furious man. Like a wounded, cornered animal, he will react from his gut, not from whatever bits of his brain continue to function, despite years of liquid and chemical abuse.

and then it is time for the rest of the world be be scared. A furious bush will listen to Cheney over and above everyone else.
