Ohio poll workers CONVICTED
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-ohio25jan25,1,684159.story?coll=la-headlines-politics

From the Associated Press
January 25, 2007

CLEVELAND — Two election workers were convicted Wednesday of rigging a recount of the 2004 presidential election to avoid a more thorough review in Ohio's most populous county.

Jacqueline Maiden, elections coordinator of the Cuyahoga County Elections Board, and ballot manager Kathleen Dreamer each were convicted of a felony count of negligent misconduct by an elections employee. They also were convicted of one misdemeanor count each of failure to perform their duty as elections employees.

Prosecutors accused Maiden and Dreamer of secretly reviewing preselected ballots before a public recount on Dec. 16, 2004. They worked behind closed doors for three days to pick ballots they knew would not cause discrepancies when checked by hand, prosecutors said.

Ohio gave President Bush the electoral votes he needed to defeat Democratic Sen. John F. Kerry in the close election and hold on to the White House in 2004.

Maiden and Dreamer will be sentenced Feb. 26.

12. Only problems I had with Edwards was his lack of experience
And semblance of excess ambition, at least to me. He's always been and always will be a fighting man and I can respect that.

Kerry won't be President if that's what you mean by nothing will come of it, but that doesn't mean that it will not have a positive result. Somewhere there is a sneakily little bastard of a Republican who would love nothing more than to get his or her hands on some future ballots and bring the Jesus-first crowd back to power. Now the sniveling little bastard will have the serious threat of jail time to consider before he commits to his - or her - cowardly act. When these two hit the cell pod it will become a hard reality in Ohio at least that if you fuck with the vote you go to jail. Not a bad thing to have lingering in the back corners of whatever these clowns call a conscience.

7. I should think the nabbing and successful prosecution of these
two anti-American, anti-democracy criminals would be something to point to with pride.
Such success is rare, although we are doing all we can to try to accomplish more of it, and should be a light to the rest of Ohio and a cautionary tale for the rest of the country!

6. I presume these two intellectial giants were republican?
Certainly sounds like it.

9. If they were, they were really bad at it.
The recount gave Kerry 17 more votes and took 6 from Bush. But I don't think they were interested in who won the election as much as in saving themselves even more work during the recount. These people are not the smoking guns many on DU seem to think they are.

10. Thank you for the information.
The stories have been very sketchy, so I, too, have had to make the assumption that the two miscreants implicated and convicted are neck deep in the election fraud that characterized Ohio in 2004, in a growing majority of thinking citizens' minds.

Am I to understand that these really were small fry who were simply trying to reduce their future workload and are now convicted, while the big dogs, who pulled off such a stunning scam, are still laughing and scratching, above reproach?

11. That is exactly what it looks like, doesn't it.
Cuyahoga (Cleveland) is a very Democratic part of the state. What was going on in other counties?
