It's Clear That Congress Has Heard the CALL FOR IMPEACHMENT. They're Investigating NOW.
Congress is now Investigating if the White House committed crimes. They are looking to see if Bush, Cheney, et al, violated law in disclosing secrets that caused Valery Plame's identity and her entire operation to be exposed.

See here for more info here by the article posted by kpete titled Waxman to Fitz-"Were Any Federal Criminal Statutes Violated by White House Officials?"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x370423

There simply is no better example of the need for Impeachment than the current administration. And we aren't talking about just Impeachment of the President. The U.S. Constitution covers impeachment of ANY member of the government. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Gonzales and the entire White House Iraq Group needs to be impeached. Members of PNAC need to be rounded up and thrown in prison for treason, for they are one of the instigating organizations that has led us to the Iraq War and the perverted perception of Imperial Powers of the Presidency. The last time I checked a history book, the Founding Fathers fought imperialism and explicitly drafted the U.S. Constitution to create a weakly powered President. The Founding Fathers wanted the PEOPLE to have the power and that is why, even today, a single State has the ability to initiate the Impeachment of the President. The Republican party should be forever shamed for pushing a tiny little turd of a man who has no confidence in himself, yet is power hungry beyond the limits of respect and so juvenile that he can't form proper sentences or bring himself to behave during formal afairs. But it is worse than having a spoiled, driveling, nose-picking brat of a president. Those around him would seek to violate the civil rights of the people, wrongfully assassinate the character of their opponents through libel, use made up reasoning with a corrupt attorney general to commit crimes and to maintain the power of their administration. But deeper into the abyss, they fund and aide our enemies by committing treasonous acts like exposing a top secret CIA organization tracking nuclear proliferation in the middle east for a simple juvenile vendetta.

Yes, the Founding Fathers had quite the foresight. They saw what unbridled imperialism can do. They envisioned George W. Bush and his Cabal of Criminals. And they created a safeguard for it called Impeachment.

The Founding Fathers gave this power to the People. The People have spoken in last years Election. And the People have spoken with several state legislatures putting initiatives to Impeach. Most recently in the news we hear about New Mexico and Vermont. But there are several other states moving to impeach the Bush administration (see here: http://www.impeachbush.tv/impeach/states.html). The People ARE SPEAKING. The People ARE ACTING.

And our Democratic Congress has heard the call of the People. And they ARE investigating. And they WILL Impeach.

6. New Mexico's impeachment is DOA. 8 Democrats voted against discussion.
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 07:48 PM by AndyA
So, we can't even depend on members of our own party to do the right thing.

Honestly, I think we're going to have to throw ALL OF THE BUMS OUT and get some new ones who remember WHY THEY ARE IN OFFICE.

Edit to add: I do hope they are working toward impeachment. Frankly, I just don't see how they couldn't be if they plan on upholding the laws of our country.

11. Ugh, that's too bad... do you have a link to that news?
At least there are several other states pursuing this and the key is that Congress has heard the call.

They *are* investigating at this point (even if they aren't using the I-word).

27. exactly the point -- using the "I" word is a big mistake
All along I've been saying that the strategic route to impeachment is to pursue investigations and hearings regarding the administration's conduct without referencing impeachment as the goal, but rather with the goal simply being to bring their conduct to public light. I've been pilloried by this approach, but I stand by it. Waxman et al are doing the right thing by not using the "I word" -- and what happened in New Mexico is good evidence of that fact.

Gotta find a way to rescue the sufferers of this devastating disease. Or, as AndyA says, the "cure" will have to be primary challengers who know the meaning of an oath, and who have some serious money and clout. Such people exist. Let's start looking.

7. Absolutely! whether the prognosticators think it will succeed or not is beside the point
make the 'pukes block impeachment. make the 'pukes block efforts to end the bloody quagmire. The more the republics go to the well on this, the more likely they will find themselves unemployed January '09

they will soon be scurrying like cockroaches to try to save their own sorry asses.

14. What the hell!! You mean somebody actually cares about the Constiitution these days?!
Man, and here I thought I had wasted my time voting for Democrats again.

Why is it only Democrats take the Constitution seriously these days?
Newt said that liberals in the Democratic party will ruin this country.
Frist said that liberal Democrats would be weak on defense.
Armey said the liberal left-wing of the Democratic party would be soft on crime.
Oh, brother, were they ever wrong!!

Robert Novak said, "Valerie Plame is not a covert agent."

I hope they ask Ms. Plame that one question, at least - "were you a covert agent when that article was published?"

I want to see that ol' sourpuss's face shrivel up until his chin touches his forehead!
Then Novak can take that to his grave, knowing that he outed a covert CIA agent - that will be his legacy, after covering Washington's news for 40 years.

Open-ended investigations say "We don't have a case" That is a lie. We have enough cases for 10 impeachments.

Bush and Cheney are committing their crimes in plain sight. They are "clearing, holding, and building" their way to a unitary authoritarian executive with unlimited power. They do something we have forbidden, claim it is not forbidden, and dare Members of Congress to stop them. When Congress refuses to impeach -- the ONLY thing capable of stopping them, Bush and Cheney "hold and build" "See? We told you it wasn't forbidden. Now let's clear habeas (or whatever takes their fancy) out of our way. . ."

17. Hearings are NOT Doings
It's not clear that they've "heard the call" of anything but the CSPAN TV cameras. And perhaps the slightly drooping poll numbers that have followed their non-confrontational optics since taking the majority. Nothing short of actual Impeachment Articles will significantly help the party or the nation.

All this undirected maneuvering and posturing just helps the regime run out the clock. It is a ghetto for political junkies -- one that the public has little time or inclination to even tour.

The Euphemedia bubble machine will continue its substance-free output of distraction in earnest.

Only Impeachment ... can cut through the noise.

It's still the only thing that makes any sense on any level - moral, logical, political, historical, electoral -- you name it. (That is, if one's not mired in the Beltway Bedlam Blather Bubble.)

It is our ONLY meaningful option.

Right now we need both an ambitious and honest man, but I'd settle for someone using this to make their name, it's there for the taking.

Pelosi had NO RIGHT to declare impeachment "off the table."
That was the worst possible start for her Speakership.

Those murderous fuckin' thugs occupying the white house should be in prison.

from thinking they would be prey off the bat.

And as far as I am concerned, Pelosi upheld her promise... they attended to much more immediately important business in the first 100 hours. Now that new information has come to light... Investigations need to be done.
