Children of Men (Limited spoiler alert)

so I went to watch that movie today... and if you have not, it is a powerful piece of movie making

And a scary, yet very familiar place, it presents... that image of the UK (after all women became infertile) was not that far off from the Modern US, Guantamo included, as well as the fear of foreigners... not to mention the propaganda machine.

Just sat through Inside Man with Clive Owen and he was a bank robber who had his face and head covered during most of the pic!! Talk about disappointment. Bet the commercial will be better than that!

I can't wait to see it. Can't go to the movies so have to wait for the DVD to come out. Luckily I am one that it doesn't bother to know the end of movie before I see it from the beginning. In fact, when I read a book I will read the first two chapters, then read the end to see if it is worth my time to read the whole book. I'm funny that way. :)

7. Excellent Cinematography!

I just saw this last night in the "re-run" theater. They should call the cops because they got straight ROBBED for Best Cinematography at the Oscars.

Good storyline too, you could see some parallels with that dytopian future. And Jaspar was the best character, awesome.

Great acting too. I would definitely recommend it on the cinematography alone!

because I have noticed as I have gotten older that I can't stand the sight of others having pain or violence afflicted on them. I know its fake but I find it disturbing, while in my adolescence I loved the gore. Funny how things change.

I could watch this bad boy every day (And I might when the HD DVD comes out this month) The camera work was tremendous. And that the director wasn't considered for an Oscar is a travesty. I'm fine with Scorcese getting a Pity Oscar any other time, but during the year this came out? Utter travesty.

The things he did with a camera blew my mind and still can't figure out how some shots were done. It's like seeing CG dinos for the first time in Jurrasic Park. Or Neo in bullet-time mode.

I'd say mark your Netflix calender, but this is the type of film that you must buy especially for the extras. Unfortunately, the HD-DVD edition will have a couple of extra....er extras that the standard version will not.

You're right about the music. Everything about this film is incredible. Especially the gun battle near the end. I don't know how the hell they did it, but it's one long tracking shot, uncut, for at least 5 to ten minutes (Same with the earlier action scenes).

Children of Men is excellent on many counts.

I was very disappointed that it didn't get more attention and Oscar nominations. No question that it should have won for Cinematography, at least.

15. At the LEAST Cinematography!

Not to mention the editing, directing, special effects, sound....I think the visual effects of the film were largely ignored due to the fact that they were so well hidden, Which is what always makes a great effects shot. The Academy is still too use to awarding films that display their effect work out in the open.

The Departed is a great film but it's the type of film Scorcese can direct in his sleep. THIS was the best film of the year!

32. A very realistic rendering of what fascism could look like...

in Britian and the US if present trends continue. I thought it was brilliant of the filmmakers to focus on how a future fascist Britian targets illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are being targeted now (read about the raid in Massachusetts) and evidence points to the KBR / Halliburton camps being built for, among other things, a massive influx of illegal immigrants, likely from Mexico once its economy collapses due to the economic troubles they will experience once they lose most of their oil revenues from Canterall, but I digress...

Children of Men is one of the most important movies of the decade. Pair it with "V for Vendetta" and you have the core of a realistic future dystopia film festival. I will certainly purchase the DVD once it comes out.
