Priests to purify site after Bush visit
By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA, Associated Press Writer
Fri Mar 9, 12:20 AM ET

GUATEMALA CITY - Mayan priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday.

"That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture," Juan Tiney, the director of a Mayan nongovernmental organization with close ties to Mayan religious and political leaders, said Thursday.

Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled to visit the archaeological site Iximche on the high western plateau in a region of the Central American country populated mostly by Mayans.

Tiney said the "spirit guides of the Mayan community" decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of "bad spirits" after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace. He also said the rites — which entail chanting and burning incense, herbs and candles — would prepare the site for the third summit of Latin American Indians March 26-30.

and Ed and Lorraine Warren into the White House before the next president moves in. They should spend like six days just flushing the place with sage, cedar, holy water, yellow roses and incense. Really, really good incense.

27. So funny! So cool! So true!
Why this does not sink into this man's giant ego, that he is not the beloved leader he sees himself as, I don't understand. I'm sorry, but I have to say that this does remind me of Hitler and other brutal dictators. And yes I know, it is a part of being a sociopath.

they could perform the purification ritual on Bush himself before he does the walkabout; then everyone might benefit.

23. That brings up an interesting theological conundrum...
...d'you suppose he'd just sort of *POOF* vanish into the aether if a purification ritual was performed upon him?

I'm operating on the premise that there's a sentient evil entity holding the constituent molecules together, and if the entity is banished or vanquished, depending upon the strength of the purification....:nuke:

24. Bush would probably explode if you tried to purify him that way...
... you have to be very careful when dealing with a corroded container of toxic waste. You can't simply wash it down with a hose like you would a dirty dog who has rolled in cow pies.

10. One of the most amazing smells in Palenque and San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas is the smell of
the Mayan incense, which is pine based. It is a wonderful smell, along with the coffee roasters going in San Cristobal all day. Truly unforgettable.

12. The White House in my opinion needs an Exorcist
War is evil. As a christian; it is generally a given that the devil is the father of destruction (wars) and lies.

These warmongers don't even thru the motions, of giving lip service to peace as an alternative to war; therefore, in my opinion - an exorcist would be a reasonable manner to deal with the them.

This trip is a farce. He's not convincing anyone of anything--in this region.

There are massive protests at every stop.

What's the point of all of this?

Why was the chimp sent away?

Priests purify shrine after Bush visit

AP, NEW DELHI

Mar 5: Hindu priests who look after the memorial of Indian independence leader Mohandas Gandhi conducted a purification ceremony at the shrine after a visit from President Bush. But it wasn't the president who offended them, it was the sniffer-dogs who scoured the area ahead of his visit.

After the dog visit, the memorial was cleansed with water brought from the Ganges river, which Hindus consider holy, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported Sunday. Bush visited the memorial on Thursday during his three day visit to India. The site, where pacifist icon Gandhi was cremated, is considered sacred and all visitors, including Bush and his wife Laura, removed their shoes before going in. The dogs, flown in from the U.S., were part of the intense security surrounding the president, but the Hindu priests believe they tainted the site.

bush is lower on the chart than a dog and he would have tainted it much more than any innocent beast.

31. I wouldn't think that would be a problem since Bush's feet do not touch the dirt
"The president's feet are not to touch the dirt"

by Jimmy Breslin,
Newsday

March 11, 2004

For days now, the job at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County has been to follow the order from the White House through the Secret Service and down to the park workers:

"The president's feet are not to touch the dirt."

So all yesterday, large crews drawn from all county parks worked to ensure that, as always in his life, George Bush's feet do not touch the ground when he appears in the big park today.

Bush arrives for a fund-raiser at a restaurant in the park. That is indoors and he doesn't have to worry about his feet there. But he has to go over ground to an administration building where he is to meet with families of 9/11 victims. After that, he has to go over more ground to get to the site of a memorial to the victims.

He doesn't want his feet on the ground and he will be at a groundbreaking ceremony.

"Bush's trip has already has sparked protests elsewhere in Latin America, including protests and clashes with police in Brazil hours before his arrival. In Bogota, Colombia, which Bush will visit on Sunday, 200 masked students battled 300 riot police with rocks and small homemade explosives."
