pamela hess on c-span, a UPI reporter
she is describing what can only be called a heartwrenching affair, the murder of a young child in Iraq.
She was embedded several times over 4 years.

great stuff. Her emotional involvement makes you want to cry.

1. Ever wonder
What were they thinking? What were they doing? What were their dreams? What made them smile? What brought them joy? What did their laugh or giggle sound like?

I do

I wonder who they were and who they could have been.

Now they're just dead and the world is the less for it.

4. she was talking about the military. and they do have limits
for good reason. The chain of command requires some limits. If you are in a war zone, and trying to get your people out safely, following orders without backtalk tends to be critically important.

6. Which is precisely why she should have not called it freedom of speech
Military personnel have limits..and do NOT have freedom of speech.. It;s like being a little bit pregnant..

you either have it or you don;t.

She needed to say that the active military CANNOT speak their own opinions "on the record"..and leave it at that

9. i sit corrected. you are right. I expect that she misspoke. her emotions
were getting away from her, and with good reason. Her story was really emotional. I expected a cspan aide to bring her a hankie.

I'm sure those soldiers Brian Williams talked to were well coached.
Just sayin'.

8. Roger that! She's an Authoritarian Groupie
I remember how her eyes used to light up when she'd talk about Rumsfeld. Not only has she drank the koolaid, she still believes that "big daddy" (Military) will make everything alright. Her adoration of the Officer Corps was the big tell.

She's DOD's easy on the eyes, spaz giggly, useful idiot. :eyes:

13. Like my mother would say, "She has no ugly features."
But those glasses must be confiscated by the fashion police.

I sense an immaturity. The first year as a 2LT I held those ideals and adoration of all things military. But the second year, I grew up. :wow:

IMO she's being treated thoughtfully and spoon fed her stories. Hell! I'd love those military officers too.

She's not IMO evil but totally BRAINWASHED. I was hoping she'd deep six those nervous giggles she inserts at the most inappropriate times.

Hess is up to her eyeballs with DOD propaganda.

Yes Pam, you're a good German. ;) :eyes:

18. I don't know about no ugly features. Check out her nose and jaw line.
Her hair also looks kind of greasy.

Anyway, that's irrelevant to her spiel, which is totally deluded. She's also not very convincing in her attempts to play both sides of the fence. Bad actress.

12. She is the FIRST person I've ever heard actually make some sense
out of what the hell our soldiers are doing there. She's doing a hell of a lot better job that Shrub hasEVER DONE, BUT I still questionif it's POSSIBLE to "succeed" there.

If the main problem rally IS the criminal element that's causing all the killing and not just a difference in religious superiority, MAYBE some version of "peace" can happen. Ibeliieve this reporter, I'm just nt sure, because she's only one person, that she can really know or understand the real causes of the violance there.

16. Unfortunately she is toeing the company line..
She keeps insisting that it doesn;t matter why we're in the war or HOW we got there..

It DOES matter..

One would think that by now, after all the wars we have been in, that SOMEONE ...SOMEDAY would actually THINK about the WHY & HOW and look back at blunders..

That might keep us OUT of places we should never be.,.

26. YES it matters why, and under what deception we invaded iraq,
but there is also substance to the argument that we made a mess and we are THERE. I think we really do owe the Iraqi's our effort to help THEM gain some control of the problems WE CREATED. We destroyed their Country!

I can relate to what Pam said "what if some army invaded the US, dismanteled the police, the army and the gov't HERE?" I can just imagine total caos in all our cities, similar to what is going on in Iraq. Then I ask myself what would I, as an American, want then? Would I want the idiots who's actions causedthe mess to at least HELP fix it, or would I want them to just get the hell out and let the criminal elememts of society continue to reak havoc everywhere?

Pam admitted, all she can talk about are the three areas of Iraq where she has been, and other areas are different.

Herreporting hasn't changed my mind, and I still want the US military out of Iraq, but I do have more sympathy for the Iraqi's. I still believe the timeline plan is the best one. Firmly explain to the Iraqi's that we will help them in every way we can, with training, advise, support etc, but only for XXX months, so they must take the responsibilty to LEARN how to control their own Country, because we ARE LEAVING.

28. The problem is, that as long as we are THERE, WE are the problem
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:29 AM by SoCalDem
Arabic countries have been in existence for thousands of years, and some upstart "democratic republic" (or whatever hellish thing we have turned into) has NO business running around telling them how they should live.

If Iraq had no oil, we would have totally ignored their very existence.

They KNOW why we are there NOW, and no matter when we leave, things will be awful.. but they are awful NOW too, and the "bad-guys" are wisely laying low.

Middle easterns measure time in thousands of years, and they are patient. They will hang back and watch us train up that spiffy air force with 4 King-Airs and march those "soldiers" around, and whenever we DO leave, they will do what they will until a new "strong-man"/dictator/Imam/Ayatollah comes along and tells them what to do.

23. I could go along with the "It doesn't matter" bunch if............
they put in prison those that started this mess. Now that would be a meaningful beginning to getting things right.

29. Her tell was spending the first eight minutes on air
reciting her full story without allowing the host one word in edgewise. It seemed like she had to set the script for herself! I was confused because I stepped into the shower in the middle of the segment and when I came out I had missed the crying segment. Was she drooping the right side of her mouth as she spoke earlier in the show or did that start after the crying? I hadn't noticed it earlier. Peace, Kim

31. You can catch today's archive on cspan's website if you want
to catch her segment. I saw some of it this morning and that was pretty rude how she kept going on and on and wouldn't let Brian get a word in edgewise. He had to take three callers straight because he was afraid she'd spend 10 minutes answering each. I think they forgot to brief her to stray from being long winded.

I also heard her say several times it's doesn't matter why we're there. I think she needs to take a long break, she's been in Iraq too long.
