Gingrich: I had affair during Clinton era-BUT, Please Do Not View Me As A Hypocrite
Gingrich: I had affair during Clinton era

By BEN EVANS
Associated Press

Published on: 03/08/07

WASHINGTON — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

28. And a very technical point it is, too
Newtie had better not say it doesn't matter because it's his private business, because that would make him the hypocrite of the century.

19. Has adultery been used successfully in campaign material?
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:56 AM by TWriterD
It's a tricky one and I doubt the Dems would (or should) do it. With people having affairs and the divorce rate what it is, I think most sane Americans are pretty forgiving (the glass houses aspect). Any ads would have to be done in such a way as to not evoke sympathy for the "adulterer" - no one wants to make Newt a sympathetic character. Personally, I love the ads in which a person's own words are turned against him/her so if that could be done without backfiring, then I'm all for it. Any attacks on Gingrich's infidelities will bring up Bill Clinton's penis, and we already lived through enough years of that. Didn't Gingrich's first wife have to rely on her church's charity because he wasn't ponying up child support? There's so much to work with, but it has to be done right.

6. Newt is not a hypocrite.
He is however, a self-serving, lying, manipulative, con artist who will stop at nothing in his quest for political power.

Now that I think about it, he's a hypocrite too.

9. Why we should see him as a hypocrite?
Only because he meets the standards for it as defined in the dictionary. Heck, God has forgiven him for that according to the freepers. God is like that. He forgives Republican's when they lie, cheat, steal and kill. He has a special fondness for the GOP because even though they never deliver on any of their promises to the religious right God still hates communism and gays.

That was just a line to help them get their guys elected. They want to preach at us and tell us how to live without having to change the way they live. They know that all they have to do is say"I have sinned! Please forgive me". The repubs just love them sinners.

If you've done a hypocrtical thing, you get viewed as a hypocrite. You troglodytes don't get to define the terms anymore. Your day in the sun has passed.

Newt is yesterday's news.

and he could very well be the Repub nominee in 2008. I can't see him pulling a Jimmy Swaggart, but Nuck Fewt will express sufficient remorse for the fundies and they'll say "oh, he's human just like the rest of us!". He knows how to play them, but I don't think Guiliani or McCain do. Especially Guiliani, who probably has tremendous contempt for them and wants deep down to tell them to phuck off (New York style!).

Is he married again? If so, wouldn't that be wife #4? Sanctity of marriage my ass! If the fundies fall for him after all that, they're even more bafflingly stupid than we thought! (I used to be a fundie...I found the credulity and stupidity of my erstwhile colleagues to be maddening at times...I think that's one of the things that drove me to wake up. Some of the shit they fall for...)

and loves guns and the flag. It's that simple, just like fundie voters. They're getting their information from Faux "News", mega-church preachers, and hatemongers like Tapeworm and Limpballs - how likely is it that the unsavoriness surrounding Nuck Fewt will make it to the light of their day? Not likely at all. Even if it does, they'll turn a blind eye. I've met Republican women who would like to string Clinton up by his balls, but want Newt as the 2008 R candidate. Very selective outrage and forgiveness.

I've lost track of his marriages, but I think he's on Wife #3.

23. Rudy...Newt...6 wives...multiple mistresses...the
GOP candidates are in a true race to the bottom. At what point does one examine one's shortcomings and failures and conclude that maybe one does not have the character and judgment to be president? In other words, what would it take now to keep someone OUT of contention in the GOP?

24. Oral sex VS Sexual Intercourse
Read somewhere this morning that a former girlfriend said that he would only engage in oral sex, because then he could say, "I never slept with that woman."

During the Clinton "scandal," I heard Bill say that he never had sexual relations with that woman. I knew exactly what he meant when he said it. In the South, we used to be taught that the real sexual experience was actual intercourse. If you never had actual intercourse, but only participated in oral sex, you thought you weren't "having sex." The view was prevalent in my generation, and I'm in my 50's. So, when Bill said that, I know that in his mind, he wasn't really "having sex." No excuse of course, but when he said it, I knew he had been having oral sex. Oh well.

29. Sounds Like An Issue Related Ad Is Called For Here... "Stamp Out Hypocrisy"
Gingrich just laughed himself silly the whole time he was leading the charge to have Bill Clinton impeached for lying about a sexual affair.

Remember, if Gingrich admits he had engaged in affairs while prosecuting Bill Clinton, that is ok because... because... oh yeah, that's it, because he is a Republican. (We all know they can do no wrong!)

"Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity."

I have to wonder what else one could call him...perhaps saint? That is sure how he acted at that time.

He has to be saying this to set up a run for dog-catcher or something. Yeah, right Newt, you have my sympathy....
