Has Anyone Seen The Executive Order Declassifying Plame's Status? (pardon my ignorance)
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:49 AM by cryingshame
Apparently the GOP and WH wants us to understand there was no crime committed in the Plame case because her status had been declassified by the Executive Office.

Has anyone seen this Executive Order?

Where is it filed?

Did the CIA ever get a chance to see it before Plame's status went public?

2. This is a key question.
The other question to which I have not heard an answer is who told Armitage that Plame was a CIA agent? How did he find that out?

4. See, your going on about the executive order and who has the
authority to declassify and following protocol just illustrates the complexity or rather, the murkiness, of the legal issues Fitz faced when investigating the outing and seeking indictments.

This admin skirts the law, ignores the law, makes up their own rules and has since day one (SCOTUS naming the weed the winner is a prime example and was the beginning of the end of respect for the law in this administration).

Look at international law, UN Charter, Geneva Convention, our federal laws that authorize our being a part of the treaties, constitutional law and war powers act, executive signing statements, and the list goes on and on.

Our only hope is that Congress does investigate and asks for impeachment hearings. "Abuse of office" is the term to describe this admin.

:banghead:

5. If there were no underlying crime (the latest right wing talking point)
THEN WHY THE NEED FOR LIBBY TO LIE?

If Ms Plame was not covert, then why the need to out her?

Conservative crimes, incredibly transparent. Maybe a lurker could jump in here and splain it to me.

8. Oh, the funniest one I've heard on the "she wasn't covert"
is "it's really about a war between the CIA and the WH".

I watched several of them do this very thing just hours after the verdict was read:

Q: If she wasn't covert, why did the CIA as for an investigation?
A: There's a war going on between the CIA and the WH. That's what this is really about.

6. Has Congress established a procedure for declassifying information.
It seems to me that all information produced by any branch of our government belongs to us, the American people. Documents and information are not by their nature secret or classified. Since we have the right to all of that information, since it is ours, it would seem to me that the government should meet fairly stringent criteria in classifying information and hiding it from us. No government employee or politician, not even the President, should have the right to arbitrarily decide that documents are secret.

Danger alone is no excuse for hiding information from a democratic people. The government is not separate and above the people. It is our creation and is below us and controlled by us. There should be some compelling reason for keeping information from us.

If information or a document was necessarily and appropriately classified and kept secret from us the people to whom it belongs, then we the people should be assured that there is a process for declassification and that it is followed. When information or documents are declassified on a whim, we should ask whether that information or documents should have been classified in the first place. If they should have been, we should ask whether declassifying them has placed us in jeopardy.

If Congress has not established procedures for classification they should. If those procedures were not followed in the Plame case, those who did not follow them should be investigated and called to answer.

If the declassification was not done according to the established procedures, then there was a failure to protect our security and if that happened, it would be treason and should be grounds for impeachment.

7. An Executive Order would be a blinking red neon light
But there are procedures for declassifying. Whether, how and when those steps were undertaken would be the question. And if those steps had been taken, the CIA would not have requested an investigation into it.

I've heard the Cons vigorously proclaiming "she wasn't covert!". They are saying that this was all a really about a war between the CIA and the WH. As far as I can tell, anyone who's saying this is simply performing political punditry.

10. They can't declassify her status in order to expose her
or her operation no matter how they want to spin it.
