Poll question: Alrightee; the *other* most contentious topic on DU?
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:54 AM by BlueIris
I left off all the economic topics again, sorry. I also realized that I left off "weight, weight loss, weight issues and eating habits/dieting trends." My bad.

1. I propose "Chuck Connors: Was He Underrated?"
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:57 AM by Old Crusoe
Conners played The Rifleman, one of the more popular tv westerns.

But I think his apex was in Robert Altman's A WEDDING, in which I believe he had only one speaking line: "Hell, I'll walk through your goddamned line."

One of the most perfectly delivered sentences in the history of film.

3. Well, I thought that might be too "hot" for this poll.
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 10:01 AM by BlueIris
You know how quickly a testy Chuck Connors thread can degenerate into total flamage. I just wanted to keep this poll civilized.

5. I understand. Chuck's an explosive personage, no question.
Still, my feelings are hurt that he wasn't included.

7. Good choice.
My experience is that every thread with Chuck Connors even mentioned in the OP was locked within minutes.

Howard Cosell can be blamed for some of this. If I recall correctly, Connors made an appearance on Cosell's short-lived, "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell". After one of the skits, Howard was ragging on Connors saying that Howard had witnessed Connors's less-than-stellar baseball career, and, after Connors's final at-bat, Cosell said he was convinced that he had witnessed Connors striking out for the final time. "However, after seeing tonight's performance, oh how wrong I was."

Now THAT's entertainment!

10. Shhhhh! You're playing with FIRE here! One passing reference to the
Cosell-Connors dust-up and this whole place will go up in smoke!

Of course I'm the one to blame. I brought it up in the first place.

O dear god what have I done?

11. U spelt "tasty" wrong
"You know how quickly a testy Chuck Connors thread......"

You forgot the main category:

"ANYTHING ABOUT SEX"

Right now, "terminology" is in the lead and "DU Rules" has zero votes. It's the same category, not two. Its all right there, really clear.

What people have trouble with is not the terms, but an understanding of "respect" -- which the Rules depend on.

Nice. I thought that one would have more votes by now.

8. Where is this normally discussed on DU?
I don't think I have EVER seen that brought up anywhere but in this poll. Are people actually condemning this lifestyle choice?

This is a question my wife and I are struggling with right now. We're 33 and have been putting off making a decision one way or the other for years. I'd love to see some intelligent discussion from the people who have decided against having children as this is where we are leaning.

9. It's come up a lot in the Lounge and in GD.
True, it seemed to come up more often in '05 than in '06 or this year, but I last remember posting about it in mid-'06, and, as usual, seeing a lot of hostile comments from folks who just don't understand why some of us choose to remain childfree. They viewed even the mildest comments about our values as personal attacks aimed at the parents of the world. Blech. If I were you, I'd go search some blogs or read some self-help books. I don't think DU is really the place for intelligent discussion of this issue.

17. What is the point of these polls?
They prove nothing, and only remind everyone of the crap that gets passed off as debate

Didn't realize a poll here had to "prove" anything. As I posted in one of the other ones, I'm just curious to see what we all think of each other. Also, especially today, I'm finding them useful for helping me flesh out my ignore list.
