This is actually a summary of how the RW response to scandals work, see the Jeff Gannon controversy, Iran-Contra, the Bush Administration paying people to say things, etc. for proof.

1. They will deny that it happened

2. Once it is clear as crystal that it happened, then they will deny that it is wrong

3. Once it is evident that what happened is illegal or unethical, they will try to create a similar scandal on the other side of the aisle

4. Once it is clear that the scandal they created is either totally false or blown totally out of proportion, they will deny that it ever happened
