The lesson of Ann Coulter
If you accuse everyone who disagrees with your political positions of treason and hypocricy, it's good for your career. But if you call enough people gay who are not gay, then you lose your support.

Or to put this in a linear equation: being a hypocritical traitor is worse than being a conservative, but being gay is worse than being a hypocritical traitor.
