It's time to call for impeachment of Gonzales.

The provision of the Patriot Act that allows the Attorney Generl to appoint interim federal prosecutors for indefinite terms should be changed, so that this sort of political retaliation, which I have also experienced, never happens again. Under the old law, which worked just fine, the local federal district court would appoint a temporary replacement after 120 days until a permanent candidate was named and confirmed by the Senate.

Meanwhile, Gonzales should take the Rumsfeld Route and quietly resign with his tail between his legs. (Then again, if his authoring of the most incendiary of the torture memos were not enough to prompt that, then this latest scandal surely won't.)

Gonzales should be fired. This time, however, it would not be a wrongful termination, but rather for cause. Plenty of it.
