Clinton 46% vs. Brownback 41% , Obama 49% vs. Brownback 34%
March 9, 2007

The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey gauging general-election support for Republican Senator Sam Brownback shows him trailing Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton among likely voters by the narrow margin of just five percentage points. It’s Clinton 46% Brownback 41%.

However, Democratic Senator Barack Obama leads Senator Brownback by the much wider margin of 49% to 34%.

Maybe Falwell actually is right about his nutty constituency...
"I certainly hope that Hillary is the candidate," Falwell said at a breakfast session Friday in Washington. "I hope she's the candidate, because nothing will energize my (constituency) like Hillary Clinton," he said.

10. Those are strikingly high numbers for Brownback this early, but
Rasmussen is not usually more than 4-5% points off, skewing Republican most of the time, at least that's how it seems to me.

Brownback stands to benefit some when Giuliani's marriage difficulties, Romney's flip-flops, and McCain's weary-ass nonsense become more a part of the public dialogue.

But numbers as high as this poll has him really seems surprising.

11. Rasmussen was the most accurate pollster in 2006
from what I saw.

Is it so hard to believe that HRC is a weak candidate?

12. skipos, Jesus. My take on this was Brownback's standing. He's
barely registering in some of the GOP's own polls.

13. Sure but
keep in mind that a lot of people are just voting for the R or D in these polls. Richardson vs. Giuliani is about 35% to 50%, but I highly doubt that 35% even KNOW who Richardson is.

HRC, for all her $$$ name recognition and fans, doesn't appear to be very strong in the general election polls. Sure, she whips unknowns like Romney, but they won't be unknown in a general election.

I'm not picking a fight, I am just sayin'...

15. Republicans have a built-in 33%-35%.........
They could nominate Jeffrey Dahmer, but as long as there is an "R" next to their name, they'll get that 33%-35% automatically.
