What is it with all the Dr. Evil toys for the armed forces?
From the BBC:
US 'plans stealth shark spies'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4767428.stm

Pentagon scientists are planning to turn sharks into "stealth spies" capable of tracking vessels undetected, a British magazine has reported.
They want to remotely control the sharks by implanting electrodes in their brains, The New Scientist says.

It says the aim is "to exploit sharks' natural ability to glide through the water, sense delicate electrical gradients and follow chemical trails".

The unusual project was unveiled last week in Hawaii, it says.

2. Human animal hybrids bad
using electronic mind control on animals is ok. Here's hoping a military mad scientist loses a finger or two. Up to the elbow joint.

3. Because agencies like DARPA and the Pentagon have no other
reason to exist? We see the world and the environment as an object to be exploited? America would never have started if not for military force?

4. Profits for the Military Industrial Complex
which also gives jobs to a lot of brass after they retire from positions in the military that influence what sort of Dr Evil toys the military lobbies Congress to buy.

The troops need equipment for sure. But we need to take a real close look at what they are getting and who gets the goodies for the decisions, if the TROOPS' needs are to be met and not just the corporate needs.

7. Ya mean remote-controlled sharks . . .
. . . aren't as important as say, body armor for troops?

:sarcasm:

6. So much brains and technology...
...and nobody can figure out how to create peace? Come to think of it, I think they DO know how to make peace, but just don't care.

10. Peace
As long as you have an ever expanding consolidating circle of power, peace is only possible when whoever stands in the way of that expansion no longer does(however that may happen, usually by force). Peace is only possible when everything is the same and predictable. The larger the scale, the more artificial the peace.

15. Unlimited budget. Unlimited possibilities... Bill Gates is a MISER compared to these guys.

Why don't they just pour all of our money into building pyramids like the Egyptians did?

These sharks, like so much else of the military budget, are useless channels of our surplus which, in the end, are only there to honor those really in control. At least pyramids would make a great tourist attraction...
