Is there anything more Al Gore needs to do, than say "Yes".....
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 01:08 PM by speedoo
to become President in January, 2009?

I mean, really. All he has to do is make an affirmative decision, and do the normal things that he has done before, and the nomination and the Presidency are his.

Am I wrong?

1. Completely wrong
IF he decides to run, he should be able to win by running an aggressive, full-throttle campaign, as everyone else is planning to do. His edge should help win if he fights as hard as the rest of the field. But to say that Al Gore simply has to step onto a podium and say "Here I am, love me!" is naive.

Here in Texas Ann Richards had that basic attitude. She had an 80+% approval rating and was running against a half-wit who's only claim to fame was his famous father. She took it easy on him, took the high road, let him launch his little mudpies. You know what happened.

2. I agree.
Replace my "do the normal things that he has done before" with your "running an aggressive, full-throttle campaign" and I don't see anyone stopping him, assuming he runs a smart, effective campaign that anticipates the rethug nasty shit.

5. Yes Karl Rove Began A Career As The Destroyer

He began a whispering campaign against Ann Richards,
spreading a rumour around that she ws a "lesbian". Her
popularity plummeted and George W. Bush won the
election.

He never did win fair and square, did he.

9. You remember who they claimed her lover was?
Sarah Weddington, the Roe v Wade attorney. They combined two Texas hatreds into one. They also ran an ad implying that Richards had ordered the Waco siege.

No, he never has won on his merits. For that matter, he's never succeeded at any honest venture he undertook, and he failed at most dishonest ones, too. An honest media would have exposed him and run him from the campaign in 2000. Alas, the days of an honest media are gone, if they ever existed.

12. Thanks for the info

I didn't know who the lover was. It's
amazing that people weren't on to
him. That's National Enquirer stuff!

6. I think so.
His father probably stole the election for him.

11. Not a chance
The Republicans swept Democrats from statewide office, and most local ones. All the polls showed a major change from Dem to Repub at that time. Ann Richards shouldn't have won in 90. She was trailing by double digits a week or two out from the election, but her opponent kept screwing up, and she won. Texas was already mostly Republican by then.

3. I Don't See Anyone Stopping Him Either
I mean, he has to do more than annouce, but I didn't take your comment literally.

What I can't figure out is that Al used to want the White House so badly that in addition to 2000, he ran campaigns in 1988 and 1992 when he was a long shot. Now he has the best chance of his life, and he doesn't seem interested. He must be really sick of politics.

4. Maybe. I honestly believe the country will stand behind someone who comes
out showing some balls, and kicking some ass by telling it like it is and being willing to do something to change it.

Go Al Go!

10. Yes, you are wrong, it will not be given to him on a silver platter
he will have to fight for it. heck, even polls which include Gore as a possible candidate don't have him leading.
