Lawmaker blasts Schwarzenegger via billboard
Calif. governor wants Michigan to 'drop dead' over warming, he alleges

Updated: 53 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A Michigan congressman is defending the U.S. auto industry against fuel efficiency increases by criticizing a famous foe of global warming: California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Republican Rep. Joe Knollenberg's re-election campaign placed a billboard along a busy interstate in metropolitan Detroit that reads, "Arnold to Michigan: Drop Dead!" It shows a grim-looking picture of the actor-turned-politician and draws attention to a Web site.

"Michigan and the Big Three are being unfairly bullied by politicians who have no understanding of auto manufacturing," Knollenberg said Thursday in a statement announcing the billboard and Web site: www.big3defense.com.

Knollenberg said his group "picked on Schwarzenegger because he's a perfect symbol of a bully and because he has become the Republican Al Gore."

1. Why did I know this was a Repuke even before I read the article.
My State is caught in the worst job loss in our history. We do not have the technical jobs to diversify and offset the loss of our 500,000 manufacturing jobs. Looks like our Republican Rep thinks it's easiest to blame AHNULD. What a sad State we have here in Michigan. Highest unemployment and #1 in UHAUL one way rentals. With the only way out to blame AHNULD.

2. I hope we can get a good candidate against him in 08
Said candidate would need to appeal to enough moderates to win.

Joe needs to go.

3. I thought Nancy Skinner was a great candidate
Pity she was a progressive, which probably put her on Rahm Emmanuel's "do not fund" list

4. She never seemed like the kind that would win over redish district
like Knollenberg's. I am no political strategist, but I grew up there.

Skinner is a real progressive, but I don't always think that the most progressive candidate is the best candidate for every race. I never thought she would win for a second.
