why does Matthews (tweety) pronounce it "cheeee-knee"
how can you mis-pronounce the name of the vice-president? I hope that means he can't stand him.

1. Because, as someone who knew the bastard when he was SECDEF,
that IS the correct pronounciation of the bum's name.

4. that's how the Cheneys actually pronounce it...
I don't know why everyone else (in the media) pronounced it Chay-nee in 2000, since I--and I assume all other Americans--wouldn't have had a clue or cared either way.

20. I would
but only because a local realtor is named Richard Chaney (note spelling difference--and yes, it is pronounced "CHAY nee"). I was at work one day, and had just gotten off my DU break when I got a call, "This is Richard Chaney,".....interesting way to meet someone (and nearly have a heart attack!)

6. The family aside, it isn't the way anyone else, including the President, pronounces it.
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 05:00 PM by WinkyDink
And it sounds stoooopid. But whatevah!

It's like that dopey "90210" actor pronouncing his first name "Eye-an" instead of "Ian".

7. I heard Tweety actually say something about
this on Hardball in the last couple of weeks. He said something like "...and VP 'Cheeney' which is, by the way, how he pronounces his name...."

8. If it's Chee-ney like Chee-se, they should spell it like that, then.
IMHO.

11. "Chee-knee" is correct...Tweety is subtly reminding us that Dick
can't even tell the truth about his own name.

23. A better question is why does * pronounce it chain ee?

If the Cheneys themselves pronounce it "chee nee'?

When people mispronounce my surname, I correct them. It's my opinion that if you're not sure how to pronounce a name, you should ask.
