Gonzales, Mueller Admit FBI Broke Law
I'm cross-posting this from LBN for those who do not frequent that page. This is obviously a very important disclosure and something that needs as much exposure as possible

LBN link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2761750

From the "Big Fu***ng Surprise" files:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070310/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/n...

The nation's top two law enforcement officials acknowledged Friday the
FBI broke the law to secretly pry out personal information about Americans. They apologized and vowed to prevent further illegal intrusions.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales left open the possibility of pursuing criminal charges against FBI agents or lawyers who improperly used the USA Patriot Act in pursuit of suspected terrorists and spies.

The FBI's transgressions were spelled out in a damning 126-page audit by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. He found that agents sometimes demanded personal data on people without official authorization, and in other cases improperly obtained telephone records in non-emergency circumstances.

The audit also concluded that the FBI for three years underreported to Congress how often it used national security letters to ask businesses to turn over customer data. The letters are administrative subpoenas that do not require a judge's approval. "People have to believe in what we say," Gonzales said. "And so I think this was very upsetting to me. And it's frustrating. We have some work to do to reassure members of Congress and the American people that we are serious about being responsible in the exercise of these authorities," he said.

Is there anybody out there who didn't see this type of abuse and overreaching of authority coming? Just another day in the worst administration in the history of the country.

1. That's great that it's upsetting to you Alberto but guess what
you willingly allowed the law to be broken.....

Hope Alberto will be following Libby to jail.

2. I'm sure that won't happen
They'll scapegoat some mid-level FBI administrator, tell everyone that it wasn't official gov't policy to do these types of things, a few bad apples, etc. Nobody at the top will be held accountable.

6. Yea I got the same feeling...these guys are taking the country
down a very dark path....I don't think the American people will be very happy once they really understand the damage that this administration has done to this country.

7. Fear Not! The Brave Congressional Dems Have Your Back!!!
They'll stop at nothing - absolutely nothing - to stop the evildoers in their tracks. Using their tools of non-binding suggestions and triangulation, they'll stop the evil-doers! You'll see!

10. Just like how A broke B's hand with his face.
I'm still calling out the Texas Rangers; someone owes the rest of the nation for 'The Crawford Ranch' and so they are duty bound. I guess we can trust the ATF to get to the bottom of this!

No no, wait...the CIA is on the job!

5. An 'apology' doesn't even come close to what's required.
When law enforcement personnel of the highest rank break the very laws they're entrusted to enforce, they deserve immediate termination and prosecution. The Cheney/Bush cabal are organized crime of the very worst kind.

12. But. . . . But. . . . But. . . . . .
:sarcasm:

(just wanted to make sure everyone understood. . . .)

I thought the USAPATRIOT act more or less gave the FBI and the DHS and the CIA and IRS and IUD and the USB authority to go after any and all information on anyone they needed and/or wanted to.

Did we see this coming? Well, duh, of course we did, because this is pretty much what the fucking patriot act was SUPPOSED to do! It has made all of us who weren't afraid of the other shit -- the terrorist shit -- afraid of THIS shit!

:scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

NOT

end :sarcasm:

You know what --- I don't fucking care any more. I am not going to live my life in fear of someone finding out what websites I access, what phone numbers I call, who I write to, who writes to me, what magazines I subscribe to, what books I check out of the library, what protest rallies I attend, or even who I have sex with and in what position!

13. Ah, well, no biggie, it's OK...
We all make mistakes sometimes.

As long as you're sorry....

NOT.

WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING HERE????

I swear it's about time for pitchforks and torches. I'm not sure our Congress could deal with all this shit working 24/7 - 365 to investigate...
