What Should Be The Next Pro-Union Bill??? |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-10-07 01:06 AM by BayCityProgressive
The Dems have already passed the Employee Free Choice Act and the pro-union amendment to the Homeland Security bill through the house. What should be the next pro-union legislation? What could realistically pass the house? I would like to see the provision of Taft-Hartley that bars sympathy strikes to be repealed..

1. Tariffs on Cheap Offshored Goods and Services |

Cheap overseas labor is used as a cudgel against workers - they're afraid if they unionize, their jobs will go away. Clinton's legacy of encouraging offshoring (or "free" trade or whatever) needs to be reversed.

3. A laws that allows workers to organize more easily... |

....in franchised companies. The service sector (think fast food, and retail) is an area of job growth that is difficult to outsource but because of a franchised business model it is difficult to organize since each store/outlet/restaurant can be considered a separate 'shop'. Imagine unionized McDonald's!
